Baldur’s Gate 3: A Disappointing Experience with Druid Companions

Baldur’s Gate 3: A Disappointing Experience with Druid Companions

At the beginning of the story, Druids play a significant role in Baldur’s Gate 3, but the game takes its time in introducing them as members of the party.

Baldur’s Gate 3 stands out for its unique design feature of providing two Druid party members. Despite the absence of any preset characters belonging to the Bard, Sorcerer, or Monk class, these classes are still viable options for players to choose from.

The two Druids referred to are Halsin, the imprisoned Archdruid who is known for his ability to heal the tadpole affliction, and Jaheira, a prominent figure from the first two Baldur’s Gate games. In her elder years, she remains a steadfast supporter of the Harpers.

The main concern among fans, particularly on the Baldur’s Gate 3 Reddit, is the delay in unlocking Halsin and Jaheira as playable party members. While Act I heavily features Druids, these characters are not available until after the completion of the storyline.

Halsin just hangs out in the camp until you finish a specific quest.

“One user expressed frustration, stating that it is frustrating to have zero Druids during both druid questlines and then suddenly having two Druids join right after both quests are completed. Another user agreed, adding that they felt Halsin should have joined the party sooner.”

“Another fan explained that by the time they recruited Halsin, they had already formed a solid party of characters and were comfortable with their abilities. They felt it was too late to introduce a new class and instead left Halsin at camp for the rest of the game.”

Despite being popular legacy characters, the timing of recruiting Druids, Jahera, and Minsc is not ideal according to one user who stated, “They become available too late, even though they are legacy characters. It would be great if Bear Daddy could join the party after the Grove, especially for exploring the Underdark (not in a suggestive way. Maybe).”

Baldur’s Gate 3 introduces players to a diverse range of characters from the start, including Shadowheart, Astarion, Gale, Lae’zel, Karlach, and Wyll, all of whom can be encountered within the first few hours of the game. This early introduction allows players to form strong bonds with these characters, encouraging them to keep them in their party rather than constantly swapping in new members.

The introduction of the Druids and Minsc in the story is unnecessarily delayed, as they are not present during the most crucial part. Despite a crisis occurring in Act I at a Druid Grove, the significant nature enthusiasts are not yet part of your team.
