Baldur’s Gate 3 Boss’s Concerns About Game Length After Scrapping Content

Larian Studios CEO Swen Vincke shared that initially he had concerns that Baldur’s Gate 3 would be too brief due to the amount of content that had to be cut.

Baldur’s Gate 3 is a vast game, divided into three acts, that can easily take over a hundred hours to complete, especially if you thoroughly explore every corner.

Despite this, Swen Vincke revealed in a recent BAFTA interview that the game was originally planned to be longer and that several sections had to be removed. As a result, the CEO initially had concerns about the game’s length.

During the interview, Swen mentioned the topic of “hidden aspects”of the game. One of these includes the creation of Moonrise Towers in Act 2.

Imagine how long Baldur’s Gate 3’s Act 2 would be if the other tower made it to the game.

“Interestingly enough, Moonrise Towers were originally built as two separate towers,”he mentioned. “However, over time, one of the towers was shipped without the other. The remains of the second tower remained for quite some time until it was eventually removed as well.”

Swen stated that the extra tower was removed solely due to production reasons. He clarified that the game was becoming too large, leading to the decision to remove that section.

Furthermore, Swen also noted that Larian had originally intended to create a larger number of regions for the game. Despite this, he personally feared that the game would be too short, as he has a history of underestimating the length of their games.

The developers have mentioned that there were plans for additional content, such as new areas for Wyll and Gortash. Wyll was originally set to have his own area at Red War College, and players would have first encountered Gortash at Candlekeep, along with other planned additions.

Despite confirming that they will not be creating a Baldur’s Gate 3 DLC or sequel, Larian has not completely abandoned the possibility of future additions. Even without official updates, the community continues to search through the game files in hopes of uncovering any remnants of the cut content that may have been left out.
