A bug in Baldur’s Gate 3 presented some players with a horrifying combination of companions that fans are calling “Shale.”
Baldur’s Gate 3 allows players to meet a variety of potential companions as they travel along the Sword Coast, such as the vampire Astarion and the druid Halsin.
However, a recently discovered bug has created a new party member, one you’re probably not ready for.
As shared by Reddit user pick_nerri, it’s possible that Gale and Shadowheart will merge in some way, and the result is as disturbing as you might expect.
A bug in Baldur’s Gate 3 makes Gale and Shadowheart much too close
In a post on the BaldursGate3 subreddit, pick_nerri shared a screenshot of the monstrosity they dubbed “Shale,” a portmanteau of the characters’ names.
“Shale isn’t real, they can’t hurt you” byu/pick_nerri inBaldursGate3
It is unclear how the glitch, which causes Shadowheart’s head to appear on Gale’s shoulder, is triggered. However, this is not an isolated incident, as at least two commenters say they have encountered the same or similar mergers.
Of course, the bug got some Baldur’s Gate 3 players thinking about how “Shale”would actually work in the game.
“Now with twice as much religious trauma!” one commenter said, referring to the fact that both Shadowheart and Gale have quite complex relationships with the deities of their respective stories.
“Shale has a 100% chance of missing the Holy Flame (nothing has changed),” the original poster commented.
The name also reminded some of Dragon Age: Origins DLC companion Shale, leading someone to ask “Does this Shale hate pigeons too?”
It’s unclear how this bug impacts gameplay or if there is a solution other than reloading the game and hoping for the best. This may be another issue introduced by Patch 6, one that will hopefully be addressed in the next patch.
