A Baldur’s Gate 3 player is experiencing a series of bugs fueled by mods that constantly swap character models in the game. The best one so far is the one that gave them a little Astarion in place of Boo the hamster.
Baldur’s Gate 3 is home to a host of memorable characters, but none as much as the sequel to Game Companions. Among them, Astarion is definitely the favorite, at least when it comes to the number of fanfictions.
Even the high elf vampire’s award-winning voice actor had no idea the character would become so beloved. The only character in Baldur’s Gate 3 more adorable than Astarion might be Minsc’s adorable little hamster, Boo.
Thanks to a particular bug that may have been caused by the use of certain mods, we have the best of both worlds. Reddit user u/TylerBourbon posted a screenshot of their current game in which Minsc was holding a small Asterion whose character model had been swapped with that of his famous pet.

“My current game has been littered with character models swapped during ‘cut scenes’ and this is by far the weirdest,” the player explained. “Boo has been replaced by a small Astarion who wears a sort of massive, baggy version of his armor.”
They admitted to using a suite of mods but until now these mods had not affected any previous games. Strangely, other players don’t think they should put any effort into correcting the problem because the result is just too funny.
“I would have suggested reinstalling, but I think you came across pure perfection,” one player noted. “I can’t imagine what happened, and while I hope it gets fixed, part of me wishes it didn’t,” replied another.
The birth of what we call Hamstarion is a joyous occasion for most viewers, but u/TylerBourbon has apparently identified the source of the problem and is going to rectify it by uninstalling the responsible mod.
The phenomenon has sparked a lot of questions among players who saw this particular model swap in Baldur’s Gate 3, but one is the most relevant of all.
“My only question is, where is the Astarion-sized Boo?”
