Baldur’s Gate 3 Centaur Mod Reveals Expectedly Unhinged Questions

A well-known fantasy race is currently being incorporated into Baldur’s Gate 3 through a mod that is currently in development, but the main focus of attention seems to be on questions related to trousers.

Centaurs are a playable race in D&D, as seen in the latest version, Mordenkainen Presents: Monsters of the Multiverse. However, this race often brings up troublesome inquiries about the rules, such as “Are they able to ride mounts?”(to which the answer is technically yes) and “How much space do they occupy on the battlefield?”

Larian Studios likely ranked Centaurs at the bottom of the playable race list when developing Baldur’s Gate 3 for a number of reasons. Implementing them would be a daunting task due to their unique size and shape, requiring significant alterations to cutscenes and equipment.

A member of the Baldur’s Gate 3 subreddit shared their progress on a project to introduce Centaurs as a playable race in the game’s custom character Origins. This sparked some expected questions from the community.

One fan passionately expressed their desire for the Centaur to be mountable, allowing Mintara to ride them more than once. However, it should be noted that the game already includes its fair share of peculiar romance scenes.

“One user commented on encountering a softlock on a staircase, while another user inquired about the longstanding question of how Centaurs would wear pants. The original poster responded by stating that Centaurs do not wear pants at all, only covering their upper body and leaving their lower half exposed.”

One player inquired, “But do they also possess the necessary ‘equipment’?”They clarified, “I’m asking for a friend.”It can be assumed that they are not referring to the typical D&D gear such as swords, a grappling hook, or potions.

There are numerous mods for Baldur’s Gate 3 that introduce new races, including D&D’s Tabaxi. However, these additions primarily consist of humanoid characters that share a similar appearance to the pre-existing choices.

The responsibility lies with the fans to offer diverse options for the game’s player base. In the future, Baldur’s Gate 3 may include the Loxodon, a creature resembling an elephant, the Thri-Kreen, an insect-like species, and the Plasmoids, known for their slimy appearance. The players will also have to use their imagination to envision what these creatures do in their private lives and see it come to life in the game.
