Withers has been praised by Baldur’s Gate 3 fans for his role in preventing what some players initially believed to be a significant plot hole concerning Bhaal.
Despite Baldur’s Gate 3’s story being full of twists and turns, there is a constant worry that the events may not seamlessly connect.
After the showdown with Orin at the Temple of Bhaal, several BG3 players experienced a certain sensation. One Reddit user inquired about why Bhaal allowed the party to depart unscathed following the conflict.
“He is undoubtedly angry about what we did; he could have easily commanded his remaining followers to attack our vulnerable group… And yet, he refrains. Instead, he instructs them to keep their weapons sheathed and allows us to depart from his temple without harm. Why,”the player inquired.
Several fans contended that this reaction remains faithful to Bhaal’s essence and will continue to unfold in the future.
“One player argued that Bhaal enjoys slaughter, even when it involves his own followers. They pointed out that the actions taken in his temple were exactly what he would have liked.”
Furthermore, it was mentioned that Bhaal’s level of power may not be as substantial as expected. “Bhaal is currently considered a quasi-deity, having relinquished much of his strength. In addition, the rules of Toril dictate that gods cannot meddle in mortal affairs. As a result, his abilities are quite restricted.”
Surprisingly, there are community members who suspect that Withers was responsible for the effortless escape.
If a player chooses the Dark Urge route but refuses to accept Bhaal, Withers will intervene and potentially revive them. He will declare, “Rise, Challenger of Gods, and ready yourself for battle once again. Death will not take you as long as I am still here.”
Fans in the comments were enthusiastic about this thought process, with one even dubbing him “chad Withers”for consistently supporting the group.
