Crossplay is Coming to BG3 in the Future

In a blog post dated July 16, 2024, ahead of Patch 7’s release, Larian Studios announced exciting updates for Baldur’s Gate 3, including crossplay. The statement highlighted:

“Patch 7 will not be the last update for Baldur’s Gate 3. We have additional features planned – many of which were requested by the community, such as crossplay and a photo mode for capturing and sharing your unforgettable gaming moments. We are also focused on various other enhancements, including gameplay adjustments, quality-of-life improvements, bug fixes, and performance optimizations.”

According to Michael Douse, Head of Publishing at Larian, crossplay has been part of their plans since the game’s early development: “It’s on the roadmap, and while we have a timeline in mind, we don’t want to commit to a date until it’s finalized,” he commented.

If you’re playing on PC, whether through Windows or Mac, it appears you will soon have the ability to play together regardless of using GoG or Steam.

Cross-Progression

While crossplay is still pending, Baldur’s Gate 3 does support cross-progression through its cross-save feature.

It’s important to recognize that cross-save may not be visible on PC unless a controller is connected, so we recommend plugging one in first.

Additionally, we suggest creating a Larian account ahead of time to streamline the process, as you’ll need an account for the option to surface in the main menu.

To set up cross-save between PC and console, follow these steps:

  1. Launch BG3 on your PC.
  2. Create or log in to your Larian account.
  3. Once in the game, access the options menu by pressing the ESC key.
  4. Navigate to the cross-save option located under the Gameplay tab.
  5. You can toggle the option on and off from this screen.
  6. After syncing the changes, launch the game on your console and enable cross-save from the main menu.
  7. Restart BG3, and you’ll see a ‘Continue‘ option available that includes your existing PC save.

If you prefer to transfer your console save to PC, just begin with the steps above starting on your console.
