Baldur’s Gate 3 players have a plethora of romantic options to choose from, but there seems to be one unexpected monster type that has captured their interest. In fact, their desire for this type has prompted a response from Larian.
Much like the rest of the party, Baldur’s Gate 3 allows you to engage in romantic relationships with a variety of creatures. These options range from a Mind Flayer with a squid-like head, to Drow elf twins, and even evil Devils from the Nine Hells. And let’s not overlook the possibility of romancing a Druid while they are in their bear form.
The fanbase’s thirst for more content from the D&D Monster Manual is insatiable, as highlighted on the Baldur’s Gate 3 Reddit community. This was demonstrated when the official Larian Twitter/X account responded to a fan’s request to have a romantic encounter with a Water Elemental.
Baldur’s Gate 3 Fans Want More Water Elementals

One user joked, “Water elementals are the ultimate thirst traps,”while another commented, “Larian’s hilarious response perfectly highlights the ridiculousness of the situation, although they can only blame themselves for it lmao.”
“According to one user, fanbases are inherently filled with sexual content because they consist of individuals. This can be seen through the existence of Rule 34, which is a result of humans seeking out explicit material. Furthermore, the larger the fanbase of a game, the greater the likelihood of encountering such content due to the sheer number of people involved.”
A single comment from a Pokemon player managed to completely baffle us all. “It’s like the Vaporeon incident all over again.”
As expected, the comments that were made were quite typical. One user wrote, “Simply add jello powder and you’ll have a slime gf,”while another jokingly (hopefully) commented, “Please drown me daddy.”
D&D beat Baldur’s Gate 3 in the Elemental Romance Department
D&D characters have been romancing elementals for years
Despite appearing to have more mature elements than D&D, Baldur’s Gate 3 has actually been trumped by the tabletop game in this regard.
In Dungeons & Dragons, it is possible for humans to reproduce with all four elementals. This has been confirmed by the existence of a half-elemental race in older editions, who possess powerful abilities, and the current edition’s Genasi, who have a connection to the elemental planes.
It is probably best to leave to the imagination or never consider how someone breeds with an Earth or Fire Elemental.
Despite the backlash from its fanbase, Larian Studios will likely continue to face criticism and discussions surrounding the possibility of dating creatures for a long time. Thankfully, the release of Baldur’s Gate 3 modding tools should provide players with the means to pursue romantic relationships with even unconventional options such as a giant water blob.
