Baldur’s Gate 3 fans are split on the romance dialogues with Minthara, with many players unsure if the character’s reaction is realistic to her development.
Baldur’s Gate 3 was one of the biggest games of 2023. In addition to capturing the hearts of fans, the game swept the awards at The Game Awards 2023, even winning the main title as well as many other smaller prizes.
Thanks to the game’s success, Baldur’s Gate 3 has managed to maintain a dedicated fanbase throughout 2024, with updates, changes, and more bringing players back again and again.
And while most of these changes are welcomed by fans, a recent update has left fans mixed. The moment in question being new, altered romance dialogues between the player and supporting character Minthara.

In Baldur’s Gate 3, romance and companionship are an important part of the experience. Like Mass Effect and others, the BG3 community constantly debates who is the best romantic companion as well as sharing unique dialogue when trying to seduce characters who are unlikely options or who simply reject the player.
Previously, the romance involving Minthara was criticized by fans due to buggy dialogues and problems actually romancing the character.
In a new Reddit thread, a Baldur’s Gate 3 player shared new romance dialogue with the character Minthara, a companion character in Baldur’s Gate 3 and a drow sworn to Lolth, Paladine of the Oath of Vengeance with a noble past.
This new dynamic with Minthara and the additional dialogues is something fans are divided on.
A Baldur’s Gate 3 player commented: “I’ve read some of the other comments here and I have to admit that this dialogue is very mixed in being consistent and inconsistent with his character. It’s consistent because, as is bluntly stated in the video, it’s all about gaining power, whether through good or evil.
However, this doesn’t make sense because gaining Bhaal’s power as a Durge means becoming Bhaal’s slave and ruling the world according to his whims, not yours. This would include having Minthara subject to your compulsions which originate from Bhaal.”
Others added that although Minthara’s way of rejecting the player to the idea of romance, if specific choices were made throughout the game, then the companion should be more open to the idea.
Another player sharing his thoughts later in the thread and stating the following.
“You are absolutely right. I think at first, her being confused and angry about your decision would make some sense, but it shouldn’t be impossible to convince her to see reason given her own views on the service department. gods and masters at this stage.
And that’s without even considering that he’s an apocalyptic god who intends to have everyone murdered, including his chosen ones at the end of everything. His signature pragmatism and wisdom are pushed aside because of a god who doesn’t even try to hide it.”
