Many fans of Wyll Ravengard, the companion and Origin character from Baldur’s Gate 3, are disappointed by the lack of content featuring him.
Larian Studios has announced that Patch 7 will feature additional malevolent conclusions, including ones for Origin companions such as Lae’zel and Astarion, as revealed in a teaser released on the Baldur’s Gate 3 subreddit.
A Reddit user who has access to the early patch has revealed Wyll’s updated ending, and astute fans have observed that it closely resembles the evil ending for a Tav.
Despite Wyll’s popularity among fans, many have spoken out online about the developers’ neglect of him compared to his fellow companions.
One Reddit user created a meme regarding Wyll’s updated Patch 7 ending and the disappointment felt by his supporters.
Even his new patch 7 ending sucks, RIP 😥 byu/Megazupa inBaldursGate3
A different perspective was that the conclusion presented a lost chance. The reader questioned, “Why wasn’t Mizora forced to kneel before Evil Wyll? Why didn’t they conquer the hells and rid the lands of all ‘evil’?”
In another Reddit post, a player made a case that Wyll was deliberately set up for failure by comparing Astarion’s ending to Wyll’s. The player expressed their admiration for Astarion’s unique cinematic and attention, while lamenting the lack of recognition for Wyll.
Although Wyll’s evil journey will come to a close when he transforms everyone into illithids, Astarion’s evil culmination will see him proclaim himself as the “Sun King”, gaining dominion over the light and darkness surrounding him.
Despite the lack of care for Wyll’s character in the upcoming updates, many other Reddit users were equally upset. One commenter expressed their disappointment, stating, “Wyll’s treatment is just disappointing. I may not be angry, but it definitely saddens me.”
Despite the mistreatment being most apparent in the Patch 7 endings, players have been aware of it since the game’s development and release. One player pointed out the issues with Wyll, questioning if he even had a contract with Mizora during their Act 3 playthrough due to his buggy behavior.
There were fans who speculated that Wyll’s mishandling was a result of his character being rewritten and re-voiced during Early Access. One fan commented, “I wouldn’t be surprised if his treatment is simply a response to the changes they were forced to make in order to appease those who complained about it.”
For some time now, players have been noticing the apparent neglect of Wyll’s character arc by the developers of Baldur’s Gate 3. However, it is heartening to witness the support of those who are fond of the Blade of Frontiers, standing up for him.
