Baldur’s Gate 3: How One Player Permanently Ditched Ascended Astarion

One player of Baldur’s Gate 3 discovered a clever method for getting rid of an especially unbearable Ascended vampire: by selling them to a professional monster hunter.

In your playthrough, you have the option to support Astarion, a sarcastic vampire spawn seeking revenge against his master, Cazador. You can either help him maintain his humble (although still somewhat unpleasant) state as a vampire spawn or assist him in achieving his goal of becoming a Vampire Lord.

Despite the fact that Ascension demands the offering of 7,007 souls, which includes Astarion’s vampire spawn siblings, to be eternally damned, this is a difficult concept for many to accept, even for those participating in an evil playthrough.

Despite helping Astarion ascend, one brave player quickly regretted their decision. In a Reddit post, they revealed, “I ended his life. I found his dialogue after ascending to be unpleasant…when I encountered Gur, I simply sided with them to eliminate Astarion. As a result, he is permanently gone and cannot be resurrected.”

The community of BG3 has been greatly impacted by the decision to permanently erase Ascended Astarion through his handover to the monster hunter. One player commented, “What else could you have expected?”

“Another person added, ‘I find it hard to believe that after killing 7000 people, you suddenly made a moral choice.’”

The overall feeling appears to be that you should accept the consequences of your actions, even if it means facing a Vampire Lord waiting to bite.

Some players contend that choosing not to assist Astarion in his ascension is the more benevolent decision, despite it contradicting his desires.

“After spending time playing with him, it becomes clear that he is strongly against slavery,”a player elaborated. “He is drawn to the idea of ascension primarily for the freedom it offers from Cazador and the restrictions of being a vampire spawn.”

Despite the game’s continued success, Baldur’s Gate 3 maintains its shine thanks to its game design, which encourages player creativity, and its thought-provoking story that presents moral dilemmas. It appears that the community will always have new bizarre paths to uncover, enemies to confront, and justifications for their aggressive choices.
