How to change your party in Baldur’s Gate 3

In Baldur’s Gate 3, the maximum number of active party members is 4, including your Tav, Durge, or Origin character. This means that if you want to add a new teammate or travel with a different lineup, you will need to swap out some of your current party members. When not in the party, companions will wait in Camp until you choose to add them to the party.

Before Patch 6, it was necessary for players to manually dismiss a party member in order to add a new one. However, with the implementation of Patch 6, players now have the convenience of being able to dismiss party members while speaking to the desired companion they wish to add.

To switch out your current party members and bring in those who are waiting, please follow the steps outlined below:

1. To reach the camp, you can either use fast travel or choose the ‘take a long rest’ option from the mini-map menu.
2. After reaching camp, speak to any party member who is not currently participating and request that they join you.
3. If your group is already at maximum capacity, they will request for you to exchange one member. Choose the individual you wish to remove.
4. Once you have completed this task, your party will undergo a transformation.

If you invite a lower-level character to join your party, they will be given an XP boost to compensate for any extra experience gained by the rest of the party since your last encounter. This feature is highly beneficial as it eliminates the need for grinding to level up your new party member to match the rest of the group.
