Baldur’s Gate 3 Modder is Remaking Classic Map from Baldur’s Gate 2

One talented Baldur’s Gate 3 modder has successfully recreated Waukeen’s Promenade from Baldur’s Gate 2 within the game, unlocking a plethora of possibilities for players.

Although Larian Studios may not be planning any DLC or a new Baldur’s Gate 4, the passionate community continues to generate fresh content. Following the release of the mood toolkit alongside Patch 7, adept modders have been crafting custom maps using a specific unlocking tool.

Previous creations included Avernus, one of the most sought-after locations in the game. It wasn’t long before another iconic place from the earlier games emerged, as a dedicated user has recreated Waukeen’s Promenade from Baldur’s Gate 2.

This custom map is still a work in progress, but a clip shared by modder Lotrich reveals its striking resemblance to the original setting, featuring a sprawling oval stadium populated with a variety of merchant booths.

In Baldur’s Gate 2, Waukeen’s Promenade is renowned for its bustling merchant area and marketplace atmosphere, complete with a temple and a circus, which is depicted in the video with a prominent tent.

While a complete Baldur’s Gate 2 remake is not currently in the cards, as noted by one commenter in a Reddit thread, the mod’s creator has indicated they are “not ready for this.”

However, the door is open for others or even a group of modders to take on the challenge, as the author has expressed intentions to release the map “as open source” upon completion.

With this approach, it allows others in the community to modify, add, or remove features, alongside new “dialogues and stuff.” They shared their vision: “Those maps are for the community, not just for me.”

While it’s still early days, the fact that modders have begun to create new maps, dialogues, and even scenes bodes well for the future of Baldur’s Gate 3, making it an exciting time for the community.
