Larian is the studio that just keeps on giving. Baldur’s Gate 3 has continued to see huge success, but its developer hasn’t just let it sit. We’ve seen tons of updates since its release that are packed with bug fixes and quality of life changes, and today’s is the biggest one yet.
Baldur’s Gate 3 Patch #5 — Finally A Happy Ending
Baldur’s Gate 3 has seen some big patches since August. They’ve all packed in a whole pile of big fixes. Patch #5 is no exception, but there’s some icing on this tasty cake. This massive 26 GB update adds three particular features that players have been asking for over the past few months: new difficulty modes, a new epilogue for those who didn’t give in to their darker urges, and the ability to woo Minthara without having to wipe out the Tieflings in Emerald Grove.
Being able to romance Minthara without having to slaughter a bunch of innocents is a big deal, big a bigger deal is that finally you can pal around with your companions after everything’s said and done. Baldur’s Gate 3‘s endings left many players, myself included, wishing for some closure with the characters they’d come to know and care for through the course of their adventure. Particularly evil characters won’t get this invitation, but you’ll get one after the final fight if you’re mostly on the up-and-up.
The two new difficulty modes, Honour and Custom, allow for a very hardcore experience or one just to your liking, respectively. Honour Mode is especially difficult and holds you to a single save file for a playthrough. Custom’s options allow you to tweak an array of values, like enemy aggression levels and loadouts, trader price values, combat mechanics, and even more. There’s a whole lot to adjust in the Custom, and a heck of a lot of challenge to be had in Honour.
