Baldur’s Gate 3 Patch 7: Alfira’s Status as a One-Night Kinda Thing Leaves Players Devastated

In the last patch notes for Baldur’s Gate 3, Larian Studios officially revealed that Alfira’s fate was only intended to be a “one-night thing,”leaving many players disappointed.

In July, there was a lot of excitement among Baldur’s Gate 3 fans after a Community Update teased the addition of a “specific bard” who would temporarily join the player’s party. While the update was not very specific, many players believed this to be referring to Alfira, the well-liked Tiefling bard NPC encountered in Act 1.

Looking ahead to Patch 7 in September, it is safe to say that Larian has fulfilled its commitment with the final update for Baldur’s Gate 3.

However, despite the addition of a Gale with missing teeth and multiple dark outcomes, it shattered any chances of Alfira becoming a permanent member of the party.

The recently released patch notes have clarified that a certain bard will now be able to join the party as a controllable character at camp if there is an empty slot, but only for a limited time. This means that Alfira will only be available for one night.

The note ended with a lighthearted message that emphasized the grim truth: “No new friends, only death.”

The reaction was immediate and severe. Reddit users expressed their disappointment, with one stating, “Considering how this was implemented, if I had just started playing and had the ability to control Alfira in camp, I would have genuinely thought she was joining my party. The disappointment would have been even greater the following day.”

Furthermore, someone else chimed in, stating, “The manipulative individuals at Larian seem to relish causing pain.”

The players who were optimistic held onto hope, with one assuring the others by saying, “There’s no need to worry. I’m confident that someone will figure out a way to cheat the game and keep her.”Another expressed their hope that the modders would be able to solve the issue.

In addition, Patch 7 introduces a modding toolkit for Baldur’s Gate 3, potentially allowing for Alfira to permanently join the party, whether through official means or not.

As the patching saga for Baldur’s Gate 3 comes to an end, we say goodbye to the unique patch notes that informed us about a new feature – the Show Cinematic Nudity toggle, which allowed us to keep our playthroughs “very demure, very mindful.”

Despite Larian shifting their focus to new projects outside of Faerun, players will still hold dear the memories and mods that preserve the essence of Alfira.
