Wyll, typically regarded as one of the more compassionate companions in Baldur’s Gate 3, is experiencing a troubling issue due to a persistent bug in Patch 7 that has drastically altered his demeanor.
As one of the lesser-appreciated allies in the game, Wyll often remains overshadowed by characters like Astarion, who enjoys a wealth of fan fiction, or Shadowheart, who boasts a charming nickname.
Enthusiasts of the Warlock were optimistic that the latest content in Patch 7 would elevate him to the same level as the other companions. However, the new conclusion for Wyll in Baldur’s Gate 3 has left players dissatisfied, highlighting a perceived neglect of his character.
This oversight is also apparent in the game’s framework, where an immersion-breaking bug introduced in Patch 7 has negatively impacted Wyll’s behavior. To complicate matters further, one player has pinpointed the issue, revealing it to be a simple fix.
A Tumblr user uncovered Wyll’s greeting issue by u/bongcommunism in BaldursGate3
The problematic bug results in Wyll addressing the player with a tone of disdain, regardless of how much approval the player has gained with him. With Patch 7 applied, players are met with his cold response: “You’ve got something to say?” no matter their relationship level with the Blade of the Frontiers.
A post on Tumblr, shared through the Baldur’s Gate 3 subreddit, identifies a minor coding error as the culprit behind this glitch. One user voiced their frustration: “It’s unfortunate that such a trivial yet game-breaking bug hasn’t been resolved in any hotfixes.”
For some, Wyll’s formerly kind nature led them to overlook his abruptness entirely. One player remarked, “I assumed it was just a new way of greeting—I didn’t even notice it came across as negative.”
The phenomenon of Wyll’s newfound irritable attitude has been a concern for PC gamers since the release of Patch 7. As console players have now also adopted this latest update, the issue has gained more traction.
