Baldur’s Gate 3 Player Discovers Clever Method for Stealing from NPCs

A trick for robbing NPCs in Baldur’s Gate 3 was shared by a player, utilizing a powerful Cleric spell in a clever manner.

In Baldur’s Gate 3, players have the freedom to interact with the game world in any way they choose. This means you can either play as a law-abiding individual or as an unapologetic criminal, stealing anything you desire. However, those who choose the latter path will have to think outside the box in order to avoid facing the repercussions of their choices.

A commonly used technique for pickpocketing NPCs is to first cast the Hold Person spell on them and then engage them in conversation. This creates an opportunity for another character to steal from them while they are unable to move.

The disadvantage is that numerous NPCs who possess the most valuable items, particularly towards the end of the game, are typically surrounded by other characters who will catch you in the process.

Thankfully, a helpful Reddit user has disclosed their ingenious pickpocketing technique that combines the Hold Person method with an unexpected Cleric spell: Spirit Guardians.

The poster states that although the spell does not harm friendly NPCs, it still causes them to move out of the way. This allows players to guide the NPC to a secluded area and steal from them without resistance.

The Redditor applied the same tactic at Last Light Inn to steal from Quartermaster Talli, who possesses valuable items such as the Incandescent Staff, Shield of Devotion, and an array of dyes.

Clerics are able to cast Spirit Guardians as a third-level spell once they reach level 5. Bards, on the other hand, can also obtain this spell by using their Magical Secrets feature, which becomes available at level 10 (or level 6 for Lore Bards).

When cast, this spell creates a 10 ft radius of spirits around the user which can deal either Radiant or Necrotic damage to any enemies that enter its area-of-effect. This makes it a valuable combat spell, particularly when defending the portal to the Shadowfell as part of Halsin’s questline.

Despite not being the intended use by the developers of Baldur’s Gate 3, this strategy demonstrates that Spirit Guardians has practical value beyond combat.
