Players of Baldur’s Gate 3 have discovered a twisted yet comical method of playing fetch with their faithful camp dog, Scratch…however, the object used for the game is quite unsettling.
Scratch is a consistent source of joy in BG3. You can pet him, hug him, and even play fetch with him. Typically, this entails throwing a ball for him to fetch.
Unfortunately, in Baldur’s Gate 3, innocence does not last for very long. It has come to light that some players have found a way to play fetch with Karlach’s head, completely detached from her body.
If you make the choice to sacrifice Karlach during Act 1 in order to complete the “Hunt the Devil” quest, her head will remain in your inventory.
Whenever you find yourself relaxing at camp, simply throw Karlach’s head and Scratch will happily retrieve it, returning with a notification that reads “Item Received: Karlach’s Head.”
The reactions from players have ranged from horrified amusement to dark humor. In a post on Reddit, one user joked, “It’s what she would have wanted,”possibly alluding to Karlach’s kind-hearted demeanor and imagining her approval in a twisted manner.
If you are not willing to sacrifice Karlach, who is a great companion, and now that the headless Karlach glitch has been fixed, you can simply choose a different character instead.
This is not an isolated joke. If you happen to have another companion’s head, such as Gale, as another Reddit user mentioned, Scratch will gladly retrieve those as well.
As mentioned by another user, they stated, “Personally, I prefer the head of Nere,”indicating that using the head of a more villainous character would result in a less remorseful game of fetch.
Baldur’s Gate 3 fully embraces its reputation for dark choices and twisted humor, not shying away from gruesome decisions that may occur overnight at camp without your consent. These choices may involve sacrificing your allies or playing fetch with their heads, further solidifying the game’s reputation.
