Despite the main storyline of Baldur’s Gate 3 lasting less than 100 hours, there is an abundance of additional content to keep players entertained on their initial, subsequent, third, or even fourth playthrough. Even after 1,000 hours, fans are still discovering new content, although it may be an unfortunate bug.
During the 70 hours of gameplay in the main story, players must face challenging decisions that may result in unforeseen deaths, the departure of companions, or the players themselves being put in perilous situations.
On occasion, these questionable decisions may not be the responsibility of the player, as certain challenges can arise if quests are visited in the incorrect order or encountering the incorrect individual at the incorrect moment.
A player on the Baldur’s Gate 3 Reddit shared their tragic experience: during Act 2, their party encountered Rolan in the wilderness before rescuing the Tieflings. They chose to save him because it was Rolan, but he mentioned returning to the inn. As they progressed, they eventually reached the prison break and found Cal and Lia crying in the inn. To their shock, they discovered that Rolan had passed away and left a note. The note revealed that their wizard friend had taken his own life.
Despite some players claiming it is a completely new feature, with many stating they have never experienced it before, others believe it is a result of the glitchy quest involving Rolan.
“Another player commented, remarking on the strange circumstances of his untimely death and speculating that it may have been a matter of chance. They questioned whether Rolan had safely returned to the inn or if it was simply a matter of luck.”
Generally, the sole method of rescuing Rolan is to first liberate the prisoners in Moonrise and then save the Tieflings. If this is not done, Rolan may choose to rush off to rescue his siblings, putting himself at risk of falling victim to the Shadowcurse.
Therefore, whether this player encountered Rolan before liberating the Tieflings with a strong resolve to save his siblings, or if he was on his way back to the Last Light Inn and fell victim to the Shadow Curse, remains uncertain.
No matter how far along you are in the game, there will always be a new approach to completing a quest, whether it leads to a positive or negative outcome.
