A Baldur’s Gate 3 player has learned from experience that it is not advisable to start playing the game immediately after undergoing surgery.
Some players find Dark Urge runs to be extremely challenging, not only because they present numerous immoral choices throughout the game, but also because they require bidding farewell to companions and NPCs whom one would typically aid.
Despite wanting to play as an “angst-ridden hero,”one player experienced all of these events in their playthrough. They shared their story in a Reddit thread, which began with their character returning home after undergoing surgery.
Instead of succumbing to exhaustion and the effects of drugs, as one would expect, they opted to play Baldur’s Gate 3. “When I woke up this morning, I found my TV still on and my controller innocently resting on my pillow,”they added.

I thought, “Huh?”Then I clicked away my beautiful Roku screen saver to reveal my Steam Deck input screen. I woke up my deck and saw that BG3 was my last played game, which was not surprising at all.
To their shock, upon clicking on Baldur’s Gate 3 and selecting continue, they were met with a gruesome scene – the entire grove, goblins, and even companions were either dead or missing.
Unfortunately, as everything was in utter chaos, they remarked, “Looks like this will be my villainous playthrough from now on.”
After this, other commenters were shocked and some of them couldn’t help but mention how the user unintentionally embodied the Dark Urge, considering the situation.
One user praised, “+1 for RL Durge RP,”comparing the reader to The Dark Urge who had blacked out and killed everyone without knowing why or how.
Another individual commented, “The Dark Urge experience is truly unmatched and amazing.”In contrast, a separate player expressed concern, stating, “I sincerely hope your surgery was successful and you’re healing well. Also, please consider toning down the Durge roleplay as it can be unsettling for some.”
“One person chimed in, saying that the individual had truly experienced the Dark Urge in real life.”
Despite not being everyone’s preferred style of play, Patch 7 of Baldur’s Gate 3 is sure to have a significant impact on Dark Urge playthroughs. Larian has already hinted at two new endings, one of which is notably dark, for those who are interested.
