A Baldur’s Gate 3 player has revealed a specific interaction that is essential for gaining Astarion’s approval and should not be overlooked.
Despite being launched last year, Baldur’s Gate 3 has quickly become a favorite among the community and Astarion, in particular, has gained a lot of popularity. While his storyline has been well-received, players may find it challenging to please the morally good rogue vampire during their playthrough.
His disapproval often arises when you choose to assist others, whether it be by offering aid to the Tieflings in the grove, supporting Halsin’s decision to eliminate the Goblin leaders, or even freeing an imprisoned artist in the Zhentarim hideout. The possibilities are endless.
Fortunately, being cold-hearted is not a requirement for having the vampire on your side. A player has revealed the “key”to increasing his approval for those who are struggling in a Reddit discussion.
You don’t have to be fully evil to romance Astarion in Baldur’s Gate 3.
The user described how they were having difficulty gaining high approval from Astarion, even though he seemed to be warming up to their character, Tav, through their friendly greetings. However, they were able to find a solution to reach high approval without compromising their good playthrough.
“My actions were subtle, simply admiring a cat. However, this was the deciding factor for Astarion to go from being indifferent to actually liking my people-pleasing Tav,”they recounted.
Therefore, for those who are also trying to gain Astarion’s favor with a morally upright Tav, remember that the key to his heart is the same as the key to many others’ hearts: cats.
Many commenters agreed that Neil’s portrayal of Astarion’s behavior was spot-on, noting that he drew inspiration from his experience of befriending a feral cat over the course of three years.
Additionally, a user suggested that the key to winning Astarion’s affection is through causing chaos. This includes defacing Vlaakith’s portrait, gifting him the “creepy book,”and allowing him to witness an ogre and bugbear in a compromising position, among other things.
“According to them, he is a gremlin who enjoys the company of other gremlins, which is why he also has an affinity for cats.”
Some cats can be found in Act 2, including one that can often be seen near the Last Light Inn. While they may not initially appear to be welcoming, it is highly recommended to use Speak with Animals to converse with them at least once.
