Baldur’s Gate 3 players are trying to figure out just how stable the game’s most famous city is, and the answer is rather confusing.
Act 3 of Baldur’s Gate 3 takes place in the eponymous city, and your group has the opportunity to explore every corner of it, including everything hidden beneath.
It’s a huge city, perhaps too big for some players. All the buildings, castles and cirques swinging above can’t be good for its structure. However, the city seems to stand up as if by magic.
What makes players so confused is the number of hidden locations beneath the city, making the ground hollow. Surely the weight of the city should have caused it to collapse long ago?
Players don’t understand how Baldur’s Gate is still standing
Player u/TheFoodAtHome42 has compiled a list of some of the secret hollow structures beneath Baldur’s Gate. He asked, “How the hell is Baldur’s Gate still standing?”»
“I mean, between the Temple of Bhaal, the sewers, Cazador Keep, and the trials of Ansur, the city should have collapsed ages ago. Seems like all it would take is a ton of rain or an angry magician having a bad day for everything to fall apart.”

Not forgetting the prison under Wyrm Rock, as well as all the tremors caused by the Brain. Maybe the city really is doomed after all.
Several players have compared Baldur’s Gate to Waterdeep. This is the town where Gayle comes from, suggesting that the latter was even more unstable.
One player said: “Waterdeep is built on top of a giant dungeon that isn’t exactly stable. The sewage system of Baldur’s Gate is a trifle compared to this nonsense.”
Clearly, Baldur’s Gate 3 is full of mysteries.
