Baldur’s Gate 3 Players’ Favorite Origin Character: Karlach

For a majority of players, creating a character and immersing themselves in the story is a significant aspect of Baldur’s Gate 3. However, this may not appeal to everyone, as some may prefer to immediately begin playing with the Origin characters, who typically serve as party members in the game.

The community has widely praised one significant distinction among the Origin choices, declaring it as the top option among the selection. In a post on Reddit, a player confidently stated that choosing Karlach as the Origin character is the best decision.

The reason for this is that Karlach is the lone character who tells her own stories. This provides a much more profound understanding of her character through her personal thoughts and she emerges as the most suitable choice among the various alternatives.

It is worth noting that when the player controls other Origin characters, they do not have voice acting. This is a significant step down from when they are simply part of the player’s party, as they often express their thoughts and emotions.

The original post received a lot of support, with one player stating, “I understand why Durge or Tav may be mute due to roleplaying, but other companions have voices in the game. After playing at least once, we become familiar with their characters and they should not be silent in dialogues in my opinion.”

One suggestion was that Karlach was possibly intended to be the main character. However, it was later revealed that she was actually the last character to be included in the game. As one comment pointed out, “Based on my understanding, she was added last, possibly after the game was already playable. That’s why I find this surprising. Maybe the idea didn’t occur to them until that late stage.”

Despite Larian Studios moving on to other projects, the possibility of voiced Origin playthroughs will remain a pipe dream. Currently, Karlach serves as the only glimpse at what could have been.
