Us is a beloved summon by many players in Baldur’s Gate 3, but its appearance can be intimidating. However, one player recently discovered that this only applies to their own party, as Us has a hidden ability to conceal itself from the rest of the world when summoned.
In the Prologue of Baldur’s Gate 3, you first encounter Us. It remains a helpful companion during those initial encounters, but then appears to vanish. However, if you choose to rescue it, you can reunite with Us in Act 2 and acquire it as a summon.
While it is not a common occurrence in Faerun, some players have been hesitant to summon the Walking Brain. However, this does not have to be the case as, to anyone else, it will simply appear as an Intellect Devourer.
“According to ‘Equal-Judge8142’ on Reddit, I had always believed that Chop referred to Us as a ‘kitty’ and ‘bad kitty’ due to our uniqueness as an intellect devourer. After all, despite our walking brain and four legs with claws, it’s not unreasonable to use the term ‘kitty,’ is it?”
The OP continued, “I remembered her mentioning in Act 3 that if you summon her, she will appear as a kitty to others, but only your party will see her true form. This was right after we rescued her.”
Upon summoning Us in the presence of others, it cleverly disguises itself as a cat, a detail that is easily overlooked. The Intellect Devourer briefly mentions this in Act 2 when you rescue it, but since it never reveals itself as a cat to you, it is understandable that some players may overlook or forget about this aspect.
Despite being mentioned, there were players who were reluctant to summon Us due to their lack of knowledge that We appeared as a cat to others. They feared that having a brain accompany them may raise suspicion, but upon realizing this was not the case, some of them decided to permanently summon Us.
Some players expressed mild disappointment over the fact that you are unable to select the form in which Us appears. “I wish the player could make Us appear as a cat. It would be really neat if we had the option to choose,”one player remarked.
While the developers are still working on adding more content to the game, there is a possibility that you will be able to do this in the future. In the meantime, don’t forget that you can have your own “cat”accompany you in battles at any time, and it makes for a formidable ally.
