Baldur’s Gate 3 Players Surprised by Late-Game NPC’s Recognition of Act 1

Surprisingly, Minthara does have something to say if players manage to bring her to the area of Baldur’s Gate 3 Act 1, even though she did not originally appear there.

During Act 2, Minthara, who used to be an enemy, can be recruited in both evil and non-evil playthroughs. However, since she only appears later in the game, it was assumed that Minthara did not have any dialogue pertaining to events in Act 1.

Nevertheless, a fan on the Baldur’s Gate 3 subreddit recently unearthed that Minthara does possess certain pieces of dialogue linked to Act 1 – although it can only be accessed through a few cunning maneuvers by the player.

Typically, Minthara would choose not to journey to the Act 1 region in the event that the party chose to depart the Underdark. Instead, she elects to remain behind and await their return.

A fan discovered that using the Silence spell on Minthara would prevent her from initiating the dialogue in which she refuses to join the party. However, not only can she still travel to the Act 1 area, she also has some previously-unseen dialogue upon arrival.

According to players, upon entering the Act 1 Mountain Pass area, she not only comments on the surroundings but also expresses approval or disapproval of player choices. This came as a surprise to players, as they had assumed she would have no interaction once outside of the Underdark.

Minthara’s lines weren’t limited to just the Mountain Pass. According to one fan, she also had dialogue upon returning to the Goblin Camp, expressing her disgust at being there again with lines similar to “It repulses me to be back in this place.”

Regrettably, Minthara was not able to secure a spot in camp, but she did act normally during a period of rest. The player speculated that the developers originally intended to include the NPC in Act 1, but ultimately decided against it.

The responses to this Reddit post were in accordance with this theory, as one player pointed out that the “Mountain Pass”is classified as “Act 1b”in the game files and thus falls in a strange in-between stage of Acts 1 and 2.

However, Minthara’s recently discovered hidden lines of dialogue were not the only ones among later-game NPCs.

Another observation pointed out that Halsin’s Act 1 dialogue was also hidden. Furthermore, it was mentioned that Minsc had a significant amount of dialogue in Act 2 despite being introduced late in Act 3.
