Baldur’s Gate 3 players surprised by unfamiliar voice of main antagonist

Despite the trio of villains in Baldur’s Gate 3 being portrayed by actors known for iconic foes in various franchises, one voice’s identity still remained a mystery to players.

The actors who were featured in Baldur’s Gate 3 were announced before the game’s official release. However, if you joined the adventure later, it was possible to overlook the gradual excitement that had been building during the early access period.

In Baldur’s Gate 3, the player must face off against the Chosen of the Dead Three: Gortash, Orin the Red, and Ketheric Thorm. Jason Isaacs, known for his role as Lucius Malfoy in the Harry Potter films, portrays Gortash, while Maggie Robertson, the actress behind Lady Dimitrescu in Resident Evil Village, plays Orin.

The role of Ketheric Thorm, the last of the Dead Three, was portrayed by renowned actor J.K. Simmons who has won an Academy Award. This came as a surprise to many users on the Baldur’s Gate 3 Reddit, who were unaware that Simmons had also played iconic characters such as J. Jonah Jameson in the Spider-Man movies, Omni-Man in Invincible, and Cave Johnson in Portal 2, among many others.

One user exclaimed, “Wow, that’s why he looked so familiar!”They had just realized that the actor was also known for playing Cave Johnson and Ford Pines, which they had not noticed until now after looking at the credits.

“One user pointed out, “Wait, could that be the reason for his familiar voice?”Another user commented on how both he and Naaber seemed to be the only individuals in Faerun with American accents. However, it should be noted that the Forgotten Realms features a diverse range of accents, including American ones, due to the influence of D&D players and their unique surfer dude/valley girl tones.”

One user commented, “I didn’t even realize it was Simmons until I saw his name in the credits. He sounds exactly like Donald Sutherland to me.”A Spider-Man fan also shared, “Honestly, I didn’t even hear JJ Jameson. Ketheric just sounded so defeated and monotone. He didn’t even call Tav a menace.”

Despite Ketheric Throm being an unkillable servant of a death god, fans of old-school HBO (such as myself) will always remember Simmons for his role as prison gang leader Vern Schillinger on the TV show Oz. While Throm may be a fantasy character, his portrayal pales in comparison to the truly horrifying actions of Schillinger in the show.
