Baldur’s Gate 3 players want more monster races to be added

Baldur’s Gate 3 offers a variety of traditional fantasy choices for the main character, but gamers are eager for the inclusion of more unusual playable races from later Dungeons & Dragons publications, including those based on monsters.

The game Baldur’s Gate 3 includes all of the race choices found in the 5th Edition Player’s Handbook for D&D, as well as some additional options like the alternate Tiefling lineages from Mordenkainen’s Tome of Foes and the Githzerai, who play a significant role in the game’s plot.

According to fans on the Baldur’s Gate 3 Reddit, there is a noticeable shortage of options for monster races in the game. However, since these creatures are already present as enemies in Baldur’s Gate 3, players are hoping for them to be made available as playable choices for their characters.

Baldur’s Gate 3 fans want playable Kobolds without needing a mod

Many fans were eager to see the diminutive draconic creature, Kobold, featured more, as reflected by one user who wrote, “There are a lot of good ideas. But obviously, it’s Kobold.”

Another user suggested, “Goblin: 1) For the sake of enjoyment, and 2) to introduce unique role-playing scenarios based on the storyline.”Goblins would be the ideal choice, considering their significant involvement in Act I and the necessity for specific interactions with both major factions.

“One user expressed frustration that the Tieflings are the only plane-touched race available in the game. They also pointed out that Aasimar and Genasi, which are also plane-touched races, are not playable options.”

Fortunately, among the many options players requested, the Tabaxi, a beloved race of cat people in D&D, was also made playable through mods due to numerous fan requests.

Mods provide PC fans (and potentially console owners of Baldur’s Gate 3) with choices for the monstrous races. However, the main drawback is that these races lack the same level of refinement and seamless integration in terms of appearance and involvement in the game’s narrative as the official races.

It is hoped that Larian will include additional races before completing the game. However, in the event that they do not, modders will have ample time to improve and integrate them seamlessly with the current options for Tav and the Dark Urge over the course of several years.
