Baldur’s Gate 3 record on pace to be eclipsed by viral banana-clicking game

Baldur’s Gate 3 is at risk of losing its position on the list of the top ten most concurrently played games on Steam. The cause of this is the game in which players continuously click on a banana…

The unexpected success of Baldur’s Gate 3, named the 2023 Game of the Year, surprised even its creators. Within a short period of time after its launch, the game soared to the ninth spot on the Steam charts, solidifying its place as one of the top ten most-played games of all time based on its concurrent player count.

Ever since Palworld was launched, Baldur’s Gate 3 has been on the brink of falling out of the top ten list. Recently, a new game called ‘Banana’ has emerged as a strong contender, where players are tasked with clicking on a banana repeatedly. And that’s all there is to it.

At present, Banana is at a concurrent player peak of 858,915, inching its way closer to Baldur’s Gate 3’s 875,343. But how did this come about?

Banana is edging ever closer to supplanting Baldur’s Gate 3.

While it is true that clicking on a banana is a major aspect of playing Banana, we may have oversimplified things. There are definitely layers to the game beyond just repeatedly clicking on a banana.

After clicking the titular banana a specific number of times, players will receive a special banana at random that can be collected. Comparable to Counter-Strike 2 skins, these bananas can be sold on the Steam Marketplace, some of which have already been sold for more than $1,000.

The potential value of a banana in the game has attracted numerous players, resulting in a significant increase of over 100,000 concurrent players in the past week. As of now, Banana has the highest number of active players on Steam, surpassing the usual leader Counter-Strike 2.

It is possible that history will be made in just a matter of hours, as only 16,428 more players are needed to surpass Baldur’s Gate 3 and enter the top ten list of peak concurrent players.
