It has become apparent with the upcoming update for Baldur’s Gate 3 that we are in need of a satisfactory conclusion for The Emperor. He must be given the opportunity to redeem himself.
The Emperor’s story arc in Baldur’s Gate 3 is captivating, making him one of the most intriguing characters in the game. Many players start off adoring their Guardian, and some even develop romantic feelings. However, the twist of him being a Mindflayer creates a conflicting journey in which players must choose between accepting and trusting him, or being hesitant and feeling betrayed. This inner struggle takes place within the players’ dreams.
In the third act, The Emperor reveals his true manipulative nature as he twists the narrative, particularly in regards to the infamous Orpheus choice.
The decision between following the Emperor or utilizing Orpheus to help defeat the Elder Brain is a crucial point in the game. While Orpheus may seem like the more practical option, your devotion to The Emperor must also be taken into account.
As a result of the manipulations, a significant number of individuals align themselves with Orpheus, effectively overriding The Emperor and causing him to retreat into his lines of code. He is only briefly present in the battle against the Elder Brain.
Despite having made a decision, the story for both Tav and The Emperor does not have a definitive conclusion. This is where the new ending update could potentially make a difference.
Currently, users on the Baldur’s Gate 3 subreddit are advocating for a redemption ending for the character, suggesting that it could involve him recognizing his mistakes, expressing gratitude towards Tav, or simply realizing his true identity.
This particular detail could function in a manner comparable to Karlach’s return to the Hells, as it would involve a brief scene with minimal dialogue and a fitting farewell to a character that holds significant importance.
Despite not being able to create an ending for every character in the game, Larian Studios has a reputation for delivering new stories and endings in Baldur’s Gate 3. While some speculate that The Emperor may have perished in the final battle, it is not out of the realm of possibility for Larian to continue expanding the game’s narrative and possibilities.
