Even a year after the complete release of Baldur’s Gate 3, players continue to uncover novel and odd events. One player successfully hypnotized the Nautiloid, an action that was thought to be impossible.
The spell Hypnotic Pattern has the ability to Hypnotize enemies for two turns. However, its description does not mention its capability to inflict this status effect on inanimate objects.
On the Baldur’s Gate 3 subreddit, a post featured an image of Gale successfully hypnotizing a Nautiloid, a ship rather than a living enemy. The image also displayed the Mental Fatigue status, indicating the effectiveness of the spell.

In the third and final act, players were faced with the daunting task of fighting through countless enemies in order to reach the Netherbrain. Meanwhile, the Nautiloid Mind Flayer ship continuously bombarded the group of heroes from the sky.
The Initiative bar displayed Gale and the party in blue as allies, while all other creatures were shown in red as enemies. However, the Nautiloid took its turn in combat with a brown trim, indicating that it was an environmental obstacle.
Despite being unaware, the player soon discovered that Gale was capable of casting Hypnotic Pattern on the level 16 Nautiloid with 10,000 health. Despite the ship being out of range, the spell still managed to affect it as if it were within reach.
In the replies, fans praised Gale for his accomplishment, with one player playfully stating “He’s the unbeatable Rizzard of Waterdeep.”
One person raised a question about how Gale managed to target the Nautiloid in the first place. The response from the original poster clarified that technically, the Nautiloid could not be targeted, but they believed that its hitbox was located within the area where Gale cast the spell.
This indicated that the unusual event was not a result of a technical error, even though fans of Baldur’s Gate 3 had recently expressed a desire for certain bugs to remain as part of the game permanently.
The player provided extensive information on the Nautiloid’s stats, giving players valuable insights. These included an AC of 18, immunity to all damage types, and an impressive Constitution score of 30.
Due to its Wisdom level of six, it was expected that the Nautiloid would not succeed in its Wisdom saving throw against Gale’s Hypnotic Pattern.
