Baldur’s Gate 3’s New Evil Ending Is Guaranteed Failure

Baldur’s Gate 3’s New Evil Ending Is Guaranteed Failure

With Patch 7, Baldur’s Gate 3 introduced additional evil endings, with the Dark Urge emerging victorious. Despite their short-lived success, numerous heroes and villains are lurking off-screen, ready to put an end to their reign.

The impact of the first two Baldur’s Gate games on D&D canon was significant, as characters such as Minsc the Ranger became integral parts of the lore. The writers of D&D had to consider the events of Baldur’s Gate 2, which had multiple endings, and choose one to incorporate into the tabletop game.

Despite having multiple endings, Baldur’s Gate 3 is unlikely to have a significant impact on the canon of the game, particularly since its beloved characters are expected to make appearances in other D&D projects. This is especially evident in the evil endings, where the player assumes control of the Netherbrain.

The previews for the upcoming sinister ending feature the Dark Urge using mind control to manipulate individuals and causing widespread destruction. However, as noted by members of the Baldur’s Gate 3 Reddit community, there are numerous factions ready to intervene and stop the Dark Urge and Netherbain from gaining control of the world.

The Dark Urge’s level 12 backside is going to get kicked by the high-level NPCs of Faerun.

One user pointed out, “The dominant brain ending may not reveal the exhausted Elminster standing outside the frame, casting meteor swarm with a disheartened expression.”Another user commented, “If you do this, Elminster will emerge from the shadows, transform you into cheese, and devour you. ‘Mystra sends her regards.’”

The situation was perfectly summed up by one player who stated, “If this were true, The Emperor is most likely right; the Netherbrain would not be tolerated by any of the good gods in Forgotten Realms for very long.”

It is likely that Mielikki would take the initial action by sending Drizzt Do’Urden, or if Mystra were able to motivate Elminster, she may follow up with him after her unsuccessful Gale plan. Even if Elminster only sent a construct to fulfill his role in the plan, he still had a vested interest in its success.

Moreover, we are aware that Shar is actively working against the Netherbrain and initially tried to obtain the Astral Prism for her own use in defeating it. With the added complication of the Gith, it seems like a daunting task to defeat the Netherbrain. Good luck with that, Netherbrain!

The level cap in Baldur’s Gate 3 is 12, indicating that the Forgotten Realms is home to numerous formidable characters at level 20 who could easily defeat them in a single round of combat. While Elminster and Drizzt are often mentioned as the most dangerous, there are also many good and neutral spellcasters at high levels who could accomplish the task.

This is not to mention the fact that there are also villains who would attempt to destroy the Netherbrain, as they would most likely resist being controlled by Mind Flayers. The Zhentarim, Red Wizards of Thay, and the followers of malevolent gods would not simply allow themselves to be subjugated.

The Githyanki, who are the eternal foes of the Mind Flayers, also exist. Vlaakith could finally utilize her powerful Wish spell, beginning with the Dark Urge.

The Netherbrain itself is not a significant factor. This is because the Mind Blank spell can render you immune to its power, essentially turning it into a large, angry blob of jelly.

The updated Dark Urge ending will focus on providing personal gratification for players who chose the evil path without hesitation. It is unlikely that Larian will depict the consequences of this ending, such as the Bhaalspawn being destroyed by powerful spells like Meteor Swarm and Wish.
