Bang Si-hyuk’s Revealed Salary from HYBE Report: Not the Highest Paid Executive at HYBE

In an insightful report published on March 21, it was revealed that Bang Si-hyuk, the founder of HYBE, earned a remarkable total of 988 million KRW (approximately 740, 000 USD) in compensation during the past year. Notably, Bang chose not to accept a base salary, consistent with his commitment to responsible corporate governance. Instead, his earnings stemmed primarily from performance incentives totaling 980 million KRW, along with an additional 8 million KRW in other benefits.

The significant performance bonus awarded to Bang Si-hyuk was indicative of his key role in steering HYBE’s ambitious global strategies, particularly concerning the launching of new artists and the company’s expansion into international markets.

Contrastingly, former CEO Park Ji-won experienced a substantial increase in his remuneration. His total earnings for 2023 escalated to 2.33 billion KRW (around 1.75 million USD), marking an impressive 53.3% increase compared to the previous year’s total of 1.52 billion KRW.

Park’s compensation package included:

  • 998 million KRW as base salary,
  • 1.33 billion KRW allocated for performance bonuses,
  • 2 million KRW in additional compensations,
  • and 1, 942 Restricted Stock Units (RSUs) awarded as part of executive incentives.

HYBE clarified that executive compensation is meticulously determined by the Compensation Committee within the Board of Directors. This structure ensures that salaries are reflective of leadership roles, contributions, and responsibilities across various domains including innovation, teamwork, and organizational oversight. Performance incentives are directly correlated with the company’s business success, strategic accomplishments, and growth metrics.

During the same reporting period, the average salary for HYBE employees saw a modest rise to 106 million KRW, up from 100 million KRW in 2022. Analyzing the data by gender, male employees earned an average of 139 million KRW, whereas female employees had an average salary of 91 million KRW.
