On June 26th, Xports News published an exclusive interview with Lee Kwang-gil, KNN PowerFM commentator, in which he discussed rumors of Hwang Jae-gyun and Jiyeon’s divorce.
As a result, the commentator continuously expressed remorse for his statements.
Reflecting on himself, he admitted, “I read it somewhere in the newspaper and just said it on the broadcast. It was my mistake for not verifying the facts beforehand.”He also expressed disappointment in Hwang Jae-gyun for not showcasing his skills accurately and for misinterpreting the situation.
The commentator stated that he directly contacted Hwang Jae-gyun and personally apologized to the baseball player.
On June 25th, during a break between innings of a broadcasted baseball game, commentator Lee had a conversation with a caster where he mentioned that Hwang Jae-gyun was likely to get a divorce and criticized his performance. This live discussion was broadcasted on a visible YouTube channel radio.
The castor eventually became aware of the issue and promptly apologized during the next inning, clarifying, “That’s just a rumor, not official news,”to everyone. Commentator Lee also apologized on air after realizing his error.
Despite the fact that the divorce rumor quickly circulated online, Jiyeon was forced to temporarily halt her YouTube activities due to the escalating rumors. She eventually released a statement officially debunking the rumor as “baseless.”
At the same time, Jiyeon and Hwang Jae-gyun tied the knot in December 2022.
