On May 22nd, KBS reported that the BBC issued a formal apology to KBS. This apology came after the BBC admitted that the information presented in their documentary “Burning Sun: Exposing the secret K-pop chat groups”on their YouTube channel on the 19th, stating that a KBS lawyer had contacted and pressured one of Jung Joon-young’s victims, was inaccurate.
Earlier on the same day in Korean time, BBC issued an official statement to KBS acknowledging an error in their documentary that was released on both the “BBC News Korea”and “BBC World Service”YouTube channels. The mistake was promptly addressed by deleting the segment that mentioned KBS and correcting the information.
Furthermore, the documentary has since been amended to clarify that Jung Joon-young’s ex-girlfriend sought legal counsel from an independent lawyer, rather than a lawyer from KBS as previously stated. It should be noted that this mistake was made by the BBC and not the reporter, and we would like to make that clear.
Furthermore, it was clarified that the legal counsel sought by Jung Joon Young’s former girlfriend, as mentioned in the documentary, was not provided by a KBS lawyer but rather obtained independently by her.
The statement also emphasized, “We would like to clarify that this mistake was made by the BBC and not by the journalist who was interviewed.”
BBC issued a sincere apology to KBS, acknowledging that the incident was a mistake resulting from a misunderstanding.
