Exciting news for fans of Paru Itagaki! The well-known artist’s latest project, ‘Sanda’, is confirmed to be getting an anime adaptation.
On July 10th, 2024, an official announcement was posted on the anime’s website and X handle. Although further details have not been revealed, fans can currently view the teaser visual for the upcoming project. The renowned studio Science Saru has been chosen to handle the animation for this project.
Sanda, based on the original work by Paru Itagaki, was serialized in Weekly Shōnen Champion from July 2021 to July 2024 and published by Akita Shoten. Currently, there are 14 volumes of the manga in circulation, with the 15th volume set to be released on August 7, 2024.

The anime’s official X account has released a teaser for the upcoming adaptation. The poster showcases an elderly man wearing a red hoodie and coat, bearing a resemblance to Santa Claus. He can be seen walking on snow, with a small boy’s silhouette following behind him.
The plot appears to foreshadow a transformation for the boy, who will assume the role of Santa. Audiences can look forward to a fresh retelling of Santa Claus’ origins and an exciting journey in this new adaptation.

Summary of the Anime
The official synopsis has not been released yet, but it is possible to make predictions about the supposed storyline based on the manga. In the series ‘Sanda’, the story starts with a middle school student named Sanda Kazushige being ambushed by his classmate and co-class representative, Fuyumura. Sanda was confused by her actions and mistakenly believed it to be a confession.
Despite it being the 25th of December, the idea of ‘Christmas’ and ‘Santa Claus’ is considered a fantastical myth by the inhabitants of that world. However, as snow starts to fall, Sanda feels a sudden ache in his heart.
Fuyumura subsequently requests Sanda to join her for a meeting, during which she discloses his curse to him. She attempts to convince him to wear a ‘red’ coat in order to break the curse, but Sanda appears skeptical. As a final attempt, Fuyumura stabs him with a red object and utters the words ‘Merry Christmas’.
All of a sudden, chaos erupts in the room as Sanda transforms into his true identity as Santa Claus. Fuyumura, who has managed to break his curse, asks for his help in locating her lost friend. This marks the start of Sanda’s strange journey to locate his classmate and revive society’s forgotten customs.

Sanda Kazushige, the main character, is a descendant of Santa Claus and had been cursed. However, when his classmate Fuyumura Shiori breaks the curse, he is transformed into a real Santa. With his newfound abilities, Sanda and Fuyumura set out to find their missing classmate and also spread the spirit of Christmas to society.
