Did YSL Beauty indirectly insulted Sana from TWICE when they responded to a comment regarding BLACKPINK Rosé? A heated discussion between fans of both groups, ONCEs and BLINKs, erupted on an online forum.
On July 13, TWICE’s Sana was present at a Yves-Saint Laurent event promoting the brand’s new campaign, YSL Loveshine Factory for YSL Beauty.
On the same day, the company’s official SNS account posted pictures of the female idol who served as their ambassador in Japan.
Accompanied by her breathtaking photographs, the high-end brand added:
“Shine on. YSL Loveshine Factory takes over Japan with TWICE Sana.”
Upon the fashion icon’s debut, ONCEs were quick to shower her with praise for her top-tier beauty and influential presence. However, some BLINKs resorted to leaving malicious comments, asserting that Rosé surpassed Sana in terms of talent.
- “We need Rosé again, please.”
- “Rosé is better than Sana.”
- “Nobody being the same as the original, nobody (than) BLACKPINK Rosé.”
Despite the common occurrence of “trolls”like these, YSL Beauty only made the situation worse by responding to one of the comments in a way that seemed to endorse Rosé’s superiority over the TWICE member.
The response quickly incited ONCEs, who began criticizing YSL Beauty in the comments. According to fans, the brand indirectly confirmed BLINKs’ allegations by addressing a negative comment directed at Sana.
Sana’s followers retaliated against Rosé’s supporters by ridiculing their tendency to view everything as a competition and expressing their frustration through comments such as:
- “This makes me so mad.”
- “Well, this is the fault of their public admin.”
- “This is going to be a mess. This is so rude.”
- “You don’t deserve Sana.”
“Sana is your main source of income and face in Japan and you still have the courage to respond to a hate comment? We will not tolerate this, we want RESPECT for Sana because this was so unprofessional of a huge brand account…shame on you YSL.”
Despite the ongoing tension between the two fandoms, YSL diffused the situation by offering an explanation:
“Today, one of our community managers mistakenly replied to a negative post about our beloved and respected ambassador, Sana. This action does not reflect our brand values. Nevertheless, we apologize to Sana and any of her fans that were hurt by this action. Our commitment to supporting all our ambassadors remains unwavering. At YSL Beauty, we foster a community built on respect, love, and positive engagement.”
After completing her contract with YSL Beauty, Rosé handed over the role of global ambassador to NewJeans Danielle, while she herself became an ambassador for the beauty brand Sulhwasoo. Rosé continues to hold her position as ambassador for Yves-Saint Laurent’s clothing line.
