Beetlejuice 2 angers fans after revealing Michael Keaton’s bullsh*t screen time

Numerous fans of Beetlejuice 2 have expressed disappointment with actor Michael Keaton after discovering the weak justification he gave for having less screen time in the sequel.

In early September 2024, Keaton will once again don his iconic striped suit as Beetlejuice returns to theaters after 36 years.

Despite the excitement surrounding the return of original stars like Winona Ryder and the introduction of new faces like Jenna Ortega, it comes as no shock that Keaton remains the most highly anticipated aspect of the film. After all, his portrayal of Beetlejuice has solidified him as a pop culture legend since 1988.

Despite fans’ hopes, the actor revealed in an interview with GQ Magazine that he would not be appearing in the majority of the sequel. He stated that the filmmakers wanted to avoid overloading the film with Beetlejuice, as it could potentially ruin it. He also mentioned that the character’s role in the sequel would not be as prominent as it was in the first film.

He added, “In this sequel, he plays a bigger role in the storyline compared to the first film. In the first one, he was more of a catalyst that moved the plot forward.”

Despite his strong insistence on limiting Beetlejuice’s presence on the big screen, Keaton managed to incorporate this demand into his contract when agreeing to return for the sequel.

Despite the surprise that may come from an A-list actor like Keaton not wanting to take the lead in one of his most defining roles, it is understandable upon revisiting the first Beetlejuice.

Despite only appearing on screen as the “Ghost With the Most”for 17 minutes out of the first film’s 1 hour and 30 minute runtime, Keaton’s performance was so captivating and memorable that many fans tend to overlook this detail.

Despite the actor’s desire to uphold this informal custom, certain viewers have expressed their disappointment with what they perceive as a weak justification from Keaton.

“No way. He simply preferred to do limited work,”one fan wrote on X/Twitter, while another replied, “Come on, his character’s name is the title of the movie. What is he even talking about?”

A third viewer expressed their thoughts on the film by stating, “This will definitely bring in a lot of money at the box office. However, I am disappointed that the character I was looking forward to seeing is once again not given much screen time.”

Despite some concerns from fans, one Beetlejuicer pointed out that Keaton’s choice to not be the main star could actually benefit the movie. In a tweet, they wrote, “While some are complaining, I see this as a positive. I was worried about how Beetlejuice would translate to a full-length movie. Keaton is correct in not being the driving force of the story. Instead, he playfully pokes at it, which is what makes us love him.”

The highly-anticipated premiere of Beetlejuice Beetlejuice is set for September 6. While you wait, take a look at the top-grossing films of 2024, as well as the latest movie releases available for streaming this month and the best films of 2024 thus far.
