Bok Gwi-ju (Jang Ki-yong) and his family, the focus of “The Atypical Family”, are a unique family with superpowers. Unfortunately, they are faced with the challenges of chronic illness and struggles to adapt to modern society, resulting in the loss of their abilities. However, their fortunes take a turn when they become entangled with Do Da-hae (Chun Woo-hee).
In contrast to standard Marvel or DC superhero shows, “The Atypical Family”focuses on the personal aspects of super-powered characters, a refreshing change for viewers.
The central focus of the plot revolves around the main characters Bok Gwi-ju and Do Da-hae. The chemistry between them has mesmerized audiences, playing a significant role in the show’s increasing popularity and global acclaim on Netflix. In the narrative, con artist Do Da-hae sets out to deceive Bok Gwi-ju into a fake marriage. Nevertheless, this unexpected turn of events leads the isolated Bok Gwi-ju to re-emerge into society and rediscover his talents, ultimately leading their relationship down a surprising path.
In the May 19th episode, the two characters finally tie the knot. Despite achieving her goal, Da-hae is torn by guilt and decides to come clean to the sincere Bok Gwi-ju, causing their wedding to turn into a disaster. The aftermath in the following episode shows Gwi-ju getting hurt once again, his daughter Ina (Park So-yi) vanishing, and a future version of Gwi-ju unexpectedly appearing before Da-hae, setting the stage for an unpredictable turn of events.
Despite the tragic event that took place at the wedding, it has paved the way for a new plot twist, heightening the drama’s suspense. Surprisingly, amidst the dramatic turn of events, behind-the-scenes pictures of the wedding scene were shared online, capturing a warm and amicable ambiance. In these images, Chun Woo-hee and Jang Ki-yong appear to be in sync, displaying their on-screen chemistry as a couple.
Furthermore, the combination of Go Doo-shim playing Bok Man-heum (Gwi-ju’s mother), Kim Geum-sun portraying Baek Il-hong (Da-hae’s mother), and Oh Man-seok as Eom Soon-gu (Man-heum’s husband) creates a unique and interesting family dynamic, balancing elements of both humor and sorrow.
The production team of “The Atypical Family”released a statement in response to the unexpected turn of events, saying that a crisis has arisen in the intense and captivating mutual rescue love story between Bok Gwi-ju and Do Da-hae. The two characters will be faced with numerous decisions, and it remains to be seen if Gwi-ju can overcome the shock and win Da-hae’s affections.
