A little-known sci-fi anime series recently arrived on Netflix, sparking excitement among fans who are now rallying across social media in anticipation of a potential second season.
Despite receiving rave reviews, Scavengers Reign had a disappointing viewership and was ultimately cancelled in March 2024. If you were one of the many who missed the chance to watch it, you are not alone. The TV show was released on Max in October 2023.
Netflix came to the rescue when the first season arrived on the platform on May 31, 2024. At the time, Variety reported that a possible continuation was being considered, but no official confirmation would be made until ratings were received.
On Twitter, fans have been urging others to watch the show in order to increase its chances of getting renewed. A popular tweet states, “Help us secure a Season 2 for Scavengers Reign on Netflix by watching it today, as it was unjustly cancelled by HBO after only one season.”
“According to another, Scavengers Reign should be watched by all fans of sci-fi, animation, art, and stories, as well as anyone who wants to experience the endless possibilities of the human imagination.”
Joseph Bennett and Charles Huettner collaborated on the creation of Scavengers Reign, taking inspiration from their previous short film, Scavengers. The plot centers around the struggles of the Demeter 227’s survivors as they navigate a hostile, extraterrestrial world.
Scavengers Reign quickly gained a reputation among fans of the genre due to its pulpy adventure style, drawing inspiration from popular anime such as Cowboy Bebop and Dragon Ball Z, as well as classic films like Alien and 2001: A Space Odyssey.
Despite consisting of only 12 episodes, the first season is a unique and imaginative approach to highly imaginative science fiction, a feat that is becoming increasingly difficult to achieve in a market dominated by well-established franchises.
If you’re curious to experience the hype, Netflix in both the UK and US offers a solution, and you may even contribute to its growth.
