Second stew Elena Dubaich received criticism for waking up Chef Johnathan Shillingford when the charter guests requested food after his shift had already ended on Below Deck Mediterranean.
Just starting its ninth season, Below Deck Mediterranean is already filled with drama as the crew of the Mustique faces challenges in its premiere episode.
The initial charter was excited to host young guests who were social media influencers. However, they were disappointed when they requested late-night snacks and found Chef Johnathan Shillingford already asleep.
Despite multiple attempts, second stew Elena Dubaich was unable to wake the chef to fulfill their request for grilled cheese and nachos. In the preview for next week’s episode, Captain Sandy Yawn reprimanded her, advising her to never disturb the chef.
On Reddit, fans of Below Deck Med offered their suggestions to Elena on how she could have better handled the situation. One user even exclaimed, “I was yelling at the TV, telling her to wake up her Chief Stew!”
A different supporter also concurred, stating that Aesha could assist Elena in determining whether she should wake the chef or handle the guest’s heightened expectations during her shift.

A third individual believed it was a fantastic idea to rouse Aesha and did not anticipate her getting upset if her second stew requested her assistance with the guests.
Despite feeling overwhelmed while attending to the guests alone, Elena’s conversation with Aesha gave viewers the impression that she may have a potential solution for her stress.
Due to Chef Johnathan’s reluctance to get up after dinner service, his fans proposed the idea of him preparing late-night snacks in advance so that Elena could simply reheat them.
This would enable her to avoid having to cook the food herself, similar to how stew Barbie Pascual did on Below Deck Season 11.
As the charter progresses, it is expected that Elena will become more adept at managing the guests independently.
