Below Deck Sailing Yacht Star Slams Dylan’s Disgusting Comments About Sunny

Gabriela Barragan, a cast member on Below Deck Sailing Yacht, strongly criticized Dylan’s response to Sunny being promoted to Lead Deckhand on the upcoming season 11 of Below Deck.

Ben Willoughby’s decision to promote Sunny Marquis to Lead Deckhand on Below Deck Season 11 caused controversy, as Dylan Piérre De Villiers believed that their romantic relationship, known as a “boatmance,”may have influenced the decision.

Gabriela Barragan, a former cast member of Below Deck Sailing Yacht, publicly spoke out against Dylan’s critical remarks about Sunny on the show and showed her support for her.

“The second stew expressed her outrage on Twitter, stating that Dylan’s comments were appalling. According to her, he perpetuated the harmful stereotypes that women in the industry have been working tirelessly to fight against for many years. She strongly disagrees with his belief that sleeping with one’s boss is the only way to earn a promotion.”

In response to Gabriela’s post, Below Deck fans expressed their opinions that crew members should not receive promotions for engaging in relationships and that Dylan was more qualified for the position than Sunny.

Despite needing assistance from Dylan with some tasks, Gabriela remained steadfast in her belief that Sunny was still qualified for the Lead Deckhand position.

Despite being female, other stars of Below Deck have also encountered misogyny in the industry, including Captain Sandy Yawn and Malia White from Below Deck Mediterranean, as well as Izzy Wouters from Below Deck Season 8.

Malia and Izzy both faced criticism for being promoted to Lead Deckhand by their respective Bosuns. Like Sunny, Malia was also involved in a boatmance with her superior, Wes Walton, during Season 2.

Ben publicly justified his decision to appoint Sunny as the Lead Deckhand on social media, and Gabriela remains a staunch supporter due to her own personal experiences with mistreatment of women in the yachting industry.
