On Tuesday, October 8, 2024, exciting news emerged regarding the Berserk manga, indicating the imminent release of two consecutive chapters in the upcoming weeks. This announcement was made by the well-known manga news source on X (previously Twitter), @MangaMoguraRE (Mogura). According to Mogura, the beloved series will continue in the 21/2024 edition of Young Animal, set to hit the stands on October 25, 2024, followed by another chapter in the 22/2024 issue on November 8, 2024.
The last chapter of the Berserk manga, Chapter 376, was published on April 25, 2024, as part of a double issue, volumes 9 and 10/2024 of Young Animal. Currently, the story remains within the Fantasia Arc, but speculation suggests that a new arc, which Kouji Mori promised upon his recruitment to the manga’s team, may be on the horizon.
Upcoming October and November episodes of Berserk may signal the conclusion of the Fantasia Arc
As highlighted previously, many fans speculate that the Berserk manga is gearing up to transition into the new arc that Kouji Mori initially hinted at when joining the team in 2022. The plot has been unfolding towards an epic showdown between the Kushan Empire and Griffith’s Millenium Empire. These upcoming chapters might not only conclude the Fantasia Arc but also lay the groundwork for the next storyline.
This scenario sheds light on the lengthy pause since the last issue, especially considering Mori’s inconsistent release schedule. The simultaneous release of these chapters could clarify the extended wait, particularly if Mori utilized this time for meticulous planning of future developments.
Additionally, it’s important to recognize that Mori and the late Kentaro Miura, the original creator of the series and Mori’s childhood friend, discussed the manga’s narrative before Miura’s untimely passing. With this context, it’s highly plausible that Mori possesses a rough outline or, at the very least, a goal to pursue to honor the story’s legacy. Most of Mori’s preparation during this interval likely centered around this framework, particularly if discussions were limited to broader story points.
Miura tragically passed away in May 2021 at the age of 54 due to an acute aortic dissection. His family and friends held a private memorial service. Miura’s death ignited conversations regarding the working conditions faced by creators in the anime and manga industry, as he is celebrated as one of the most influential manga artists in history, with his flagship series impacting the manga landscape and beyond.
The serialization of the Berserk manga began in 1989 following a one-shot prototype released a year earlier. It is published by Hakusensha and originally appeared in their Monthly Animal House magazine before moving to Young Animal. Currently, Studio Gaga handles the illustration, with Mori credited for overseeing and writing the series.
