While playing Age of Mythology Retold and utilizing the Greek Pantheon, it is crucial to follow the optimal build order sequence in order to achieve victory.
In order to progress quickly through each age in Retold, it is crucial to have the best build order. However, unlike Age of Empires, the most efficient build orders vary for each Pantheon in AoM.
However, the Greeks are the most comparable to the standard Civilization found in other RTS games. This makes them the simplest to learn and they possess a flexible Pantheon that excels in both economic and military aspects, making them the ideal all-around choice.
The following is the recommended build order for the Greeks, which includes the objectives for each age and the sequence in which you should produce villagers, military units, and buildings as you progress through each age.
Archaic Age
Our objective is to build a robust economy and swiftly progress to the Classical Age.
Mastering the steps of the Archaic Age will instantly give you a competitive advantage.
Regardless of the Pantheon you choose to play with in AoM, it is crucial to focus on gathering Food during the first Age. Additionally, you need not be concerned about defense, as it is unlikely that anyone will attack you during this time. The first Age is crucial, as it will establish the foundation for the rest of your match.
The following is the most effective Greek build order for the Archaic Age:
- Assign 4 initial villagers to gather Food.
- Construct a Granary adjacent to the Food source.
- Two villagers should be directed to gather Gold.
- Construct a Storehouse adjacent to the Gold Mine.
- Direct two villagers to gather Wood.
- Construct a warehouse adjacent to the site of the Wood source.
- Construct a dwelling.
- Two villagers must be ordered to collect Food.
- I assign two villagers to gather Wood.
- Construct a dwelling.
- Direct 2 villagers to gather Food.
- Direct one villager to gather Wood.
- Construct a temple.
- Proceed to the Classical Age.
Classical Age
The aim is to begin military production while also sustaining economic growth.
Resource priorities become more balanced during the Classical Age.
Upon completing the initial steps, you will enter the Classical Age with 8 villagers assigned to gathering Food, 2 to gathering Gold, and 5 to gathering Wood. While Food remains important in this stage, it becomes less of a priority and you will need to carefully manage your resources and gradually focus on building your army.
The following is the most effective Greek build order for the Classical Age:
- Assign 5 villagers to gather Food, 5 to gather Gold, and 5 to gather Wood.
- To gradually earn Favor, order 1 villager and have them pray to the Temple.
- Direct two villagers to gather Wood.
- Construct an Archery Range, Military Academy, and Stable.
- Construct 2 houses.
- Direct 2 villagers to gather Food.
- Direct one villager to gather Gold.
- Purchase 15 military units, consisting of 5 Infantry, 5 Cavalry, and 5 Ranged.
- Construct an armory.
- Progress to the Heroic Age.
Heroic Age
Objective: Increase the strength of your army by recruiting stronger units, improving efficiency and military upgrades, and conducting reconnaissance of nearby areas for resources, relics, and potential adversaries.
Building a Fortress is key within this age as you can build Siege units and it is required to advance.
Despite the structured placement of your villagers in the first two ages, your overall build strategy will become more adaptable in response to the resources at your disposal and unpredictable in-game situations, such as enemy movements.
During the Heroic Age, the following is considered the best Greek build order:
- Ensure that your villagers add up to a total of 30, with 10 on Food, 9 on Gold, 6 on Wood, and 5 on Favor.
- Construct three houses.
- Instruct a Pegasus to swiftly survey the surrounding areas.
- Establish a market.
- To enhance productivity, improve your skills in farming, mining, and woodcutting.
- Increase your military units by two times to approximately 30 regular units.
- Construct 3 homes.
- Please place an order for 10 Minotaurs.
- If feasible, construct an additional Town Center to raise the Population Cap.
- Request 3 Donkey Caravans to regularly travel between your two Town Centers for the purpose of generating Gold.
- Please place an order for 2 Greek Heroes.
- Construct a fortress.
- Progress to the Mythic Age.
Mythic Age
Purpose: Achieve superiority by launching an offensive against your adversaries or working towards attaining the ultimate Wonder Age.
The Mythic Age is key for creating your full-scale army and asserting your map control.
As resources become scarce at this point, it is crucial to keep your resource economy running smoothly. If your opponents have not already launched an attack, they will certainly do so with great force. Building a well-balanced army consisting of regular units, powerful Myth units, and Siege weapons, while also prioritizing the acquisition of a Titan, is essential.
The most effective Greek build order to follow during the Mythic Age is presented below:
- Construct additional military structures for the units you employ to increase effectiveness.
- Construct 5 to 10 houses.
- Please place an order for 5 Petrobolos catapults or any other Siege units.
- Improve farming, mining, and woodcutting.
- Increase your army size by twofold once more, reaching a total of approximately 75-100 units.
- Improve the military units.
- Conduct an investigation into the Town Center’s Secrets of the Titans.
- Once you have accumulated sufficient Favor, construct a Titan gate.
- Construct a marvel.
To reach the Wonder Age, it is necessary to construct a Wonder using 5,000 units of Food, Wood, and Gold. In case you are having difficulty obtaining these resources naturally, you can utilize the Market to trade various resources and expedite the process.
Wonder Age
Objective: Utilize your army’s full potential to eliminate all adversaries and reap the rewards.
To progress to the Wonder Age you will need to build the classic Wonder building.
The Wonder in Retold does not function as a game finisher on its own, but it plays a crucial role in helping players finish games. As you advance to the Wonder Age, you can recast your God Powers more often and at a reduced cost, while also granting a significant increase in strength to your Greek Myth units.
If you reach the final stage, there will be no further constructions to be made. Instead, focus on upgrading all your existing structures and constructing any additional military buildings necessary to ensure high efficiency in case your units are defeated in battle. Then, launch a full-scale attack on your enemies to completely eliminate them.
While playing against higher-difficulty AI or other players via multiplayer, it is common for build orders to be adjusted in-game to adapt to your enemy’s movements, chosen God advancements, and other unexpected situations that may arise. This holds true for various ad-hoc scenarios that occur during the game.
Although the initial two stages are typically consistent, things become more unpredictable at Stage 3 and beyond. Some players may attempt to attack or rush you faster than others. Additionally, most matches will conclude before you can even reach the Wonder Age, making it unnecessary.
