To ensure maximum efficiency in your production lines in Manor Lords, it is crucial to have the best layout for your settlement. However, if you begin with a flawed layout, you may find yourself struggling to understand why you are constantly running out of food or experiencing slow production times.
As you advance to higher settlement levels and expand, adhering to these key principles will help you create an optimal layout that will increase your yield and establish you as a popular lord.
Optimal settlement layout in Manor Lords
Starting Location
Resource deposits will be marked with different icons across your Region map.
Depending on how you choose to design your settlement’s layout, your starting Region will be randomized. If you are unsatisfied with your starting Region, you can simply exit the game and start a new one.
It is essential to ensure that your Region has top-quality rich deposits for your resources. These deposits can be identified by a crown symbol on the map, and they provide a significantly higher yield than regular deposits. It is crucial to secure a rich deposit for either your Berry Deposit or Wild Hunting in order to maintain a steady food supply right from the beginning.
Build Burgage Plots near Workplaces
To ensure efficient production, consider constructing Burgage Plots near workplaces, allowing your workers to quickly commute to their jobs. This will prevent any delays in your production lines, particularly at the beginning when you have a limited workforce.
Reassign Workers
You can use a Trading Post building to reassign workers to a different workplace.
To ensure the most efficient travel routes for your workers, click on a Burgage Plot, place of residence, or workplace and use the re-assign button in the people section to reassign families to their closest workplaces. As your settlement evolves, it is important to regularly reevaluate and adjust these assignments.
Keep Buildings That Share Resources Close
In order to convert resources into other items, it is necessary to transport buildings that collect and store them to other buildings. To increase the efficiency of production, it is important to place these buildings in close proximity to each other.
An optimal strategy at the beginning of the game is to focus on creating Timber and Planks for construction. Therefore, it is advisable to position your Logging Camp next to the Sawpit to efficiently produce Planks.
Build a Road and Oxen Network
Workers will use Oxen to transport several heavy resources between buildings in your settlement.
It will soon become apparent that roads and Oxen play a crucial role in ensuring a continuous movement of resources to various destinations. Fortunately, roads do not require any cost and can significantly increase the speed of transportation for workers and livestock. Therefore, it is important to link them to all your buildings and ensure that the routes are as short as possible.
It is crucial to invest in Oxens at the earliest opportunity, as they are necessary for transporting heavy materials through your road network. This includes logging timber for construction or moving materials between buildings, which can take some time.
Establishing Small Marketplaces Near Burgage Plots
Despite the apparent convenience of a large central Marketplace, constructing multiple smaller collections of Marketplace plots near Burgage Plots would prevent goods from getting bottlenecked during transport. As a result, the Approval rating for various villagers would decrease due to limited availability.
Ensure to prioritize upgrading the Burgage Plots nearest to the markets. This will result in numerous advantages, including shorter travel time for goods to market stalls, an increase in the availability of high-quality food and clothing at the markets, and ultimately meeting the demands of the market.
Build Amenities Away from Burgage Plots
There is no need to be concerned about building the amenities, such as the Well, Tavern, or Church, far from the Burgage Plots and your main area. Unlike workplaces and Marketplaces, these buildings are not as affected by their location. Simply construct them within your Region to fulfill the needs of your villagers.
Manor Lords remains in Early Access, meaning that the most optimal layout for your settlement’s growth may change with future updates. The developers have stated that certain features, like Fire Hazards and Smell, have yet to be incorporated.
