Potential Group Performance at MAMA Awards
In a recent press briefing, the production team for the 2024 MAMA Awards revealed that they are considering a group performance by BIGBANG. If confirmed, this appearance will be particularly significant as it marks G-Dragon’s first stage at MAMA in nine years since his last performance in 2015. The production team has expressed confidence that G-Dragon’s return will once again deliver an unforgettable stage performance, coinciding with the group’s comeback.
A Look Back at BIGBANG’s Journey
BIGBANG’s previous group release, “Still Life,”debuted in April 2022, featuring all four members—G-Dragon, Taeyang, Daesung, and T.O.P—at that time. Originally, the group made its mark as a five-member ensemble when they debuted in August 2006, which included former members Seungri and T.O.P.
Challenges Faced by Former Members
Seungri, known legally as Lee Seung-hyun, parted ways with the group in 2019 after the controversy of the “Burning Sun” nightclub scandal, which led to multiple criminal charges, including embezzlement and illegal gambling. After being convicted, he served a 1.5-year prison sentence before his release in February 2023. Similarly, T.O.P announced his exit from BIGBANG in May 2023, following years of personal controversy, including legal issues related to marijuana use during his military service. Though he took part in the 2022 release of “Still Life,” he chose to officially step down to begin a new chapter in his life.
The Future of BIGBANG
As BIGBANG returns with a restructured lineup featuring three members, the K-pop community is eager to see whether they can sustain their legendary status. Fans and industry insiders alike are anxious to witness how this dynamic shift will influence their future endeavors and music releases.
