Bill Maher was perplexed upon discovering that Hailey Welch, the Hawk Tuah girl, was unaware that Canada had toilets.
Ever since her catchphrase “Hawk Tuah”went viral on TikTok, Hailey Welch has been leveraging her internet fame by selling merchandise, making public appearances, and discussing potential future projects.
On July 29, she also made an appearance on Bill Maher’s YouTube channel for an installment of his Club Random Podcast, where she discussed her transformation from an online sensation to a social media influencer.
Despite the length of the podcast, there was one particular moment that left Maher in shock. During the conversation, Welch confessed that she was under the impression that Canada did not have any toilets, only outhouses.

Maher brought up the topic when he inquired about Welch’s living situation in Tennessee, specifically if the bathroom was located “out back”or “inside”her house.
After exposing the location of the bathroom as “definitely in the house,”Welch went on to say, “I believe they use an outhouse with mulch as a toilet up in Canada. Am I correct?”
She went on to explain to Maher that she was under the impression that in Canada, they had “outhouses”where they did not flush and instead simply threw their waste on top of it.
Maher clarified that although he could envision the existence of outhouses similar to the ones described by Welch in certain parts of the world, he did not want to specifically single out Canada.
However, Welch remained firm in her belief that she had been told the same thing all along: “There are no bathrooms there, only outhouses.”
Surprised by Maher’s statement, Welch acknowledged Canada as a “very sophisticated”country, to which he replied, “I have no doubt.”
Despite the unexpected conversation, Maher ultimately complimented Welch by calling her a “breath of fresh air” for America and also describing her as “adorable” .
Welch’s appearance at the Calgary Stampede in Canada was originally planned, but was postponed for unspecified reasons. As a result, she will have to delay her visit to the country and discover the bathrooms at a later time.
