The fifth episode of season four of Black Butler, titled His Butler, Gaining Admittance, aired on May 11, 2024, at 11:30 pm JST on Tokyo MX, BS11 and other local channels in Japan. In this episode, Ciel Phantomhive uncovered the truth that Derrick Arden and the other missing students were not at the Violet house.
Furthermore, McMillan informed him that the Headmaster, who was always occupied with various duties, would be present at the renowned Weston College’s yearly cricket competition.
Despite this, he made great efforts to join the team in hopes of having the opportunity to meet him. Interestingly, episode 5 of Season 4 of Black Butler adapted chapters 74 and 16 pages of chapter 75 from Yana Toboso’s manga series.
Black Butler season 4 episode 5 highlights: Ciel and Sebastian’s Failed Mission in the Purple House
Starting off where the previous episode left off, season 4 episode 5 of Black Butler sees Ciel Phantomhive enlisting the help of his loyal butler, Sebastian Michaelis, to use his powers to locate Derrick Arden and his accomplices. Utilizing his ocular abilities, Sebastian is able to track the human souls within the building.
One after another, all the students of the Purple House emerge except for Derrick and the other missing students. Michaelis Sebastian states that he is unable to sense any other human souls present besides those who have already fled.
Ciel Phantomhive ponders if Derrick and the others were initially present at the Purple House. In the meantime, episode 5 of Black Butler season 4 showcases each Prefect and their Drudges taking charge of the situation.
Despite Prefect Gregory Violet of the Purple House disliking their involvement, he is obliged to comply. The drudges and ordinary students from the remaining three houses enter the Purple House’s building to put out the fire.
Ciel Phantomhive Discovers the Headmaster’s Attendance at the Annual Cricket Tournament
In the fifth episode of Black Butler season 4, a time-skip occurs to the next day where Ciel Phantomhive is seen having a conversation with McMillan and other characters.
Upon reflecting on the events of the previous night, he realizes that Derrick and the others are not at the Purple House. As a result, he decides that his only course of action is to reach out to the headmaster and unravel the mystery.
During a discussion with McMillan, Ciel learns that the headmaster makes an appearance at Weston College’s famous yearly cricket tournament. Additionally, he extends an invitation to the top player to attend the Midnight Tea Party.
In Black Butler season 4 episode 5, it is revealed that the headmaster’s personal preferences are the sole determinant for the most valuable player. For instance, he may choose a player based on their highest score in one instance, or invite a player for their exceptional performance in a previous year.
Despite being aware of his low aptitude for sports and the slim chances of being chosen for the team, Ciel Phantomhive still sets his sights on the tournament in hopes of meeting the headmaster. Surprisingly, Clayton reveals that Ciel has indeed been selected.
Upon further inquiry, the Prefect’s Drudge discloses that it was Michaelis who highly praised him. The boy discovers that the Blue House has a history of finishing last in the cricket tournament.
Therefore, he believes that by leading his house team to victory, he will earn an invitation from the headmaster to the Midnight party.
The Opening Ceremony of the Legendary Tournament: Ciel’s Shocking Discovery
The fifth episode of Black Butler season 4 takes place on June 3, the day prior to the tournament. The vice principal hosts the opening ceremony in the grand dining hall and requests the presence of the representatives from each house.
In their signature manner, Herman Greenhill, Edgard Redmond, Lawrence Bluewer, and Gregory Violet make their grand entrance onto the stage and captivate the audience. After their dramatic arrival, the Prefects ignite the flame of Saint George to kick off the event.
The reception commences and Lawrence Bluewer’s sisters gather around him, showing equal affection towards Ciel Phantomhive. However, they soon discover that Ciel is already engaged. Surprisingly, Elizabeth Midford, Ciel’s fiance, makes her entrance and embraces him warmly, promising to support him.
Despite her brother Edward’s belief that the Blue House consistently places last in the tournament, she maintains hope for their potential for victory.
In that instant, Alexis Midford, the father of Edward and Elizabeth, discloses that the Blue House had indeed won the tournament many years ago, during his time as a Prefect’s Drudge.
In the fifth episode of Black Butler season 4, the closing scene is a flashback that reveals the previous Prefect of the Sapphire Owl, Vincent Phantomhive, as Ciel’s father. It also discloses that under his leadership, the Phantomhive household achieved their first victory in the cricket tournament.
