Black Clover Manga May Have Already Foreshadowed Yuno Grinberryall’s Fate, and It’s Saddening

As the Black Clover manga approaches its final arc, fans have started crafting theories about the fate of its characters. Despite Yuno Grinberryall’s important role as a Magic Knight in the battle against Lucius Zogratis and the Paladins, many fans speculate that the deuteragonist may not have a happy ending.

According to a fan of Black Clover, the manga series by Yuki Tabata could potentially conclude with Yuno Grinberryall’s death, transformation into a demon, or loss of an eye. Although this prediction may seem far-fetched, there are some plausible pieces of evidence that support this theory.

Please note: This article includes spoilers from the Black Clover manga.

The Tragic Fate of Yuno Grinberryall in Black Clover Theory

According to a fan of Black Clover on X (formerly known as Twitter) with the handle @BlackCloverNews, it is possible that Yuki Tabata, the creator of the manga, has already hinted at the tragic fate of Yuno Grinberryall.

The most recent evidence comes from the Lead Color Page of Shueisha’s Jump GIGA Spring 2024 magazine for Black Clover. The page has a casino theme and features Yuno Grinberryall as a dealer at a roulette table.

In the image, Yuno can be seen either putting down or picking up the ball at the number 13 spot on the roulette table. As followers from Japan would be aware, the number 13 is commonly considered to bring bad luck in the country because of its pronunciation, which sounds like “shiju,”meaning “to die.”

One more clue can be found in a promotional video that featured Asta and Yuno’s promise from the opening chapter. In the video, the artwork gradually deteriorated, with the word “promise”and Yuno’s figure disappearing first. This could potentially foreshadow Yuno’s inability to fulfill his promise to Asta, possibly hinting at his demise.

In addition, Fukuda, the series editor, revealed that Yuno Grinberryall was initially intended to be killed off in chapter 7 of Black Clover. This information was shared in Issue 11, 2021 of Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump. With this knowledge, it is possible that the manga’s creator, Yuki Tabata, may have chosen to delay Yuno’s death until the final arc.

If not prevented, Yuno Grinberryall could potentially transform into a demon by the emergence of a fifth leaf on his four-leaf clover grimoire, as seen with Licht and Patry in their encounters with Zagred. This possibility is further suggested by the latest LCP, where Sylph (Bell) is seen reacting with shock upon seeing the number 5 on a dice.

There is a slight possibility that the manga’s conclusion could mirror its backstory lore, with Yuno and Asta replacing Licht and Lumiere. In this case, Asta may be forced to eliminate Yuno in order to defend the Clover Kingdom.

As it is well known, Zenon Zogratis and his companion Allen Fiarain bore a striking resemblance to Asta and Yuno, and had made a similar vow. Regrettably, their promise was never fulfilled as Zenon ultimately betrayed and killed his friend. Therefore, there is a possibility that Asta could potentially repeat this tragic event and turn against his friend Yuno.

Finally, it is possible that manga creator Yuki Tabata has hinted at the possibility of Yuno Grinberyall losing his left eye. Through various colored illustrations, the deuteragonist’s left eye has been shown to be covered, leading to speculation that Tabata may be foreshadowing an important event.

Regrettably, the only method for Black Clover fans to verify this theory is by patiently awaiting the release of future chapters in the series.
