Black Clover manga returns, but fans are skeptical

The Black Clover manga returns next month after a long hiatus, with the last chapter having been released in December 2023. Needless to say, the return of the manga is therefore highly anticipated. However, some fans still seem skeptical about this big comeback.

Written and illustrated by Yūki Tabata, Black Clover made a promising debut in 2015 and quickly became one of the most popular titles in Weekly Shōnen Jump, the famous Shūeisha magazine.

A manga which also gained notoriety thanks to its anime adaptation, launched in 2017 by the Pierrot studio (Bleach, Naruto, GTO) and which ended in 2021 after 170 episodes. Since then, fans have been treated to an animated film, Black Clover: Sword of the Mage Emperor, released on Netflix in June 2023.

Black Clover’s journey has encountered some pitfalls, notably due to the manga’s repeated interruptions, the result of health concerns affecting Tabata and his family. And after several months without news, it seems that Asta and the Company of the Black Bull are preparing to return very soon.

Information that can be found on the MANGA Plus site, which reveals that the next chapter will be available from April 29, 17 hours. News that caused a stir in the fan community. Although popular with shonen fans, Black Clover has encountered some obstacles over the years. The anime adaptation of the series has faced some criticism in the past, with audiences complaining about the direction and voice acting in particular. The manga has also been compared to certain classics of the genre, such as Naruto for example.

Black Clover’s popularity also took another significant hit when it moved from the pages of Weekly Shōnen Jump to those of Jump GIGA in August 2023 following the release of chapter 368. A drop in popularity which then resulted in a lack of enthusiasm on the part of fans following the news of the return of the manga, evidenced by the comments that can be found on this subject on could have been between the last chapters.

“The guy was delayed so long that I started to forget what the story was about”

Another fan expressed doubts about the length of the next chapter on Reddit, “If it’s as short as the last chapter, I’m abandoning the manga until it ends.”

Another also said: “I honestly can’t even be excited anymore, this change to Giga killed all the hype I had for the new chapters, especially when the last one was so short after waiting three whole months. And being the last arc and the fact that there are only a few chapters left, I don’t see how the story can get interesting” .

It remains to be seen whether the return of Black Clover will satisfy and potentially excite fans despite this three-month break, and whether it will manage to once again arouse public enthusiasm, like that caused by the last chapters of One Piece or even those of Jujutsu Kaisen.
