Black Myth: Wukong Benchmark – Best Settings for PC and Steam Deck

Black Myth: Wukong Benchmark – Best Settings for PC and Steam Deck

“For those interested in optimizing their gaming experience, we have compiled a list of the best settings for PC and Steam Deck that will work well with a variety of PC specifications. Black Myth: Wukong is a visually impressive game, and these settings will ensure that you can fully appreciate its stunning graphics.”

When playing a fast-paced open-world game like Black Myth: Wukong, it is important to prioritize framerate in your settings in order to have a quicker response time. It may be beneficial to sacrifice resolution in exchange for a higher FPS.

We have tested the game using the Black Myth: Wukong benchmark tool on Steam, which is available prior to its release. We aimed to find the optimal settings for achieving targeted framerates and determined the recommended settings to aim for.

In the event that the final game’s performance does not accurately reflect the benchmark, we will make updates to this article.

Best settings overall

  • Resolution: 1920 x 1080
  • Settings preset: Medium
  • Ray tracing: Full
  • Supersampling: DLSS Quality (66)
  • Frame Generation: DLSS 3

Regardless of your setup, Black Myth: Wukong is a highly optimized game that performs excellently on various hardware configurations. Even on our humble RTX 4050 laptop, we were able to achieve over 60 FPS using the recommended settings.

Therefore, for more advanced configurations, you have the ability to push your settings even further and achieve playable framerates beyond the minimum requirement. For a game with fast-paced action, such as Black Myth: Wukong, we suggest aiming for a minimum of 60 FPS, but ideally aiming for around 90 FPS if your computer can handle it.

Best settings for Steam Deck

  • Resolution: 1280 x 800
  • Preset: Low
  • Ray Tracing: Off
  • Supersampling: FSR 2 Quality (66)

Despite its high demands, Black Myth: Wukong can still be played on portable PCs such as the Steam Deck by utilizing supersampling. By following the settings mentioned above, we were able to achieve a satisfactory framerate of 41 FPS, making it a viable option for playing on the go.

We conducted a benchmark test of the medium preset with FSR 2 at 1280 x 800 for the Steam Deck, but unfortunately, the results were not favorable.

Settings Average FPS
Ray Tracing Off 28 FPS
Ray Tracing On 2 FPS

Despite its impressive performance, the Steam Deck APU is not well-equipped to handle Ray Tracing. Therefore, to avoid experiencing a laggy and slow gameplay, it is advisable to disable this feature.

Testing the Performance of Low-end PCs

The RTX 4050-equipped HP Victus 15 (2023) was tested on a lower-end PC at 1080p using the Medium settings preset. Our recommendation is to keep the ray tracing and DLSS upscaling at around 66, or “Quality”, while using medium graphics settings.

Settings Average FPS
Ray Tracing Off, Frame Gen Off, DLAA 52 FPS
Ray Tracing On, Frame Gen Off, DLAA 26 FPS
Ray Tracing On, Frame Gen On, DLAA 41 FPS
Ray Tracing On, Frame Gen On, DLSS Quality 64 FPS

The game maintains a stunning appearance with all the advanced features enabled, while still achieving an average of 64 FPS, making it fully playable. It is worth noting that the performance may differ depending on whether you are using XeSS or FSR 2.0 with an AMD or Intel GPU.

Mid-range PC benchmarks

To conduct our mid-range tests, we utilized the MSI Katana 15 laptop, equipped with an Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070 graphics card and an Intel Core i9-13900H processor, set at a resolution of 1080p.

Based on your budget, you can increase the settings for this range of PC or laptop without sacrificing performance. Starting with Medium presets is a reliable option if you aim to achieve a framerate above 100 for this action game.

Settings Average FPS
Ray Tracing Off, Frame Gen Off, DLSS 100 74 FPS
Ray Tracing On, Frame Gen Off, DLSS 100 27 FPS
Ray Tracing On, Frame Gen On, DLSS 100 111 FPS
Ray Tracing On, Frame Gen On, DLSS 66 138 FPS

Despite still being responsible for a significant amount of processing, Frame Generation allows for a smooth gameplay experience with over 100 FPS when DLSS is set to maximum. Laptop users may experience some heat buildup if they opt for High settings, but overall performance should remain impressive.

High-end PC Benchmarks

Regrettably, this particular CPU is susceptible to crashing when handling excessive workload. It is important to verify if your CPU is impacted by the Intel stability problems if you plan on running Black Myth: Wukong. As before, we began with Medium presets to ensure fair comparisons across devices.

1080p Results

Settings Average FPS
Ray Tracing Off, Frame Gen Off, DLSS 100 120 FPS
Ray Tracing On, Frame Gen Off, DLSS 100 157 FPS
Ray Tracing On, Frame Gen On, DLSS 100 132 FPS
Ray Tracing On, Frame Gen On, DLSS 66 201 FPS

At 1080p, you have the freedom to maximize all settings and fully immerse yourself in the game. For high-end PCs, 1080p gaming is a breeze and allows you to experience the game in its full glory, with all the stunning graphics and smooth framerates.

1440p Results

Settings Average FPS
Ray Tracing Off, Frame Gen Off, DLSS 100 48 FPS
Ray Tracing On, Frame Gen Off, DLSS 100 50 FPS
Ray Tracing On, Frame Gen On, DLSS 100 82FPS
Ray Tracing On, Frame Gen On, DLSS 66 122 FPS

At a resolution of 1440p, the impact of frame generation on performance becomes more noticeable. However, when Ray Tracing and DLSS are enabled, the visuals remain stunning and the gameplay remains seamless.

If you have the necessary specifications, 1440p is the perfect resolution for this game. You can also adjust your DLSS quality to reach a frame rate of approximately 144 FPS, which is in line with the standard monitor refresh rate.

4K Results

Settings Average FPS
Ray Tracing Off, Frame Gen Off, DLSS 100 56 FPS
Ray Tracing On, Frame Gen Off, DLSS 100 24 FPS
Ray Tracing On, Frame Gen On, DLSS 100 41 FPS
Ray Tracing On, Frame Gen On, DLSS 66 68 FPS

Even at 4K, objects may appear suddenly when Frame Generation is disabled. However, if you continue to use Frame Gen and Ray Tracing while reducing DLSS to 66, you can still achieve satisfactory results.

Lowering your DLSS supersampling settings to Performance will greatly improve your experience, especially if your goal is to complete the entire game in 4K.

We highly suggest lowering the resolution to 1440p for improved framerates, as they have a significant impact on gameplay in a game like this.

According to the benchmark, Black Myth: Wukong is a relatively well-optimized game. Most PC or Steam Deck users should be able to achieve good results by adjusting the settings.

Upon its release on August 20, players will be able to experience the Souls-like elements in Black Myth: Wukong.
